    Hello all,

I received my 2020 4Runner yesterday with the improved head unit. When I drove at night, I noticed the map on the head unit did not switch to "night mode," with the black map, as the 2019 did. It remained white as it does during the day, which is taxing on the eyes. In fact, the head unit screen did not dim at all with the headlights on. I know it possible, because I can see the darker screen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVjD8HtkH_I starting at about 1:40. I'm sure I'm just missing a setting, I was wondering if anyone knows what the fix is.

    Bone stock!
It should go into a dark mode with the headlights. To the left of you steering wheel and on the dash by the auto high-beam button there is a dashboard brightness wheel. It might be in the highest brightness setting suitable for driving during the day with your headlights on. Roll that little wheel down and I bet your dash lights will go into dark mode with the headlights.

Bingo. When I finally figured that out and showed my wife, you'd have thought that I split the atom. My goodness it was bright at night.

On my 2020 ORP I’ve have found that if the dim wheel (on dash to the left of steering wheel) is clicked in its highest setting, the media screen will remain super bright at night. Try manually adjusting it down.

I believe there’s a mod for installing a sensor in the dash that will auto dim at night, but for the 2020+ the sensor costs more than I’ve been willing to spend. Search the threads and you should find more info.

That appears to have done the trick. Thanks everyone!

The dash brightness dial to the left of the wheel has a little "click" into its very highest setting, which is what seems to have prevented the dash from going dark. I scrolled the dial down so that it un-clicked and now it dims with the headlights.
