    Hi all,
I have a 2016 with a 3" lift with about 5k on the suspension, wheels and tires. I have had a vibration and humming noise for the last couple of months. It is only between 35-45 mph and sounds to be coming from the front. I installed a diff drop kit but it did not change anything. What is causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the vibration/humming go away when you put the 4Runner in 4 wheel drive?

If so, I agree with what @Mtbpsych said. ECGS bushing.

Put the vehicle in 4 hi and see if the vibration/humming stops.

If it goes away in 4wheel it's the needle bearing.

Search ECGS bushing and you'll find many threads about this issue on 4Runners, Tacomas and FJ's. Has been a problem since about 2005.

Some have had luck getting Toyota to replace the front diff.under warranty. Sometimes that cures the issue. Other times the new diff. ends up with the same hum/vibration.

My 4Runner had the issue before I lifted it. Replaced the needle bearing with the ECGS bushing and have had no more issues.

I have a new 2021 TRD Offroad (not Pro) with no lift. I'm afraid I have that problem - in my brand new truck :-( The dealer thought it was tire-related (I have winters on), as did I. They replaced the newish tire that we thought was the problem with another new tire, and the dealer said it solved the problem. Ya right, the vibration and humming is worse. It's very cold today (-20 Celsius), so that may be the reason it's worse. The new tire was underinflated (28 PSI), and putting it to 34 PSI seemed to make it better. The key though was shifting into 4WD seemed to make the vibration and humming much better. Does this sound like a needle bearing issue. I thought they resolved it. Thanks

The didn't solve it. Same carrier casting and same wobbly needle bearing. Toyota just recommends diff replacement but it is same parts thus on borrowed time before it gets loud again.

Argh! Thanks for the reply. Shop foreman at dealer (good guy) said they thought they had fixed it because they removed the TSB, and he has not seen this in anything more recent than a 2019. So hopefully I got the runt of the litter and all will be good going forward.
