    Hey peeps
Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving.
Just lifted my 2000 limited which has 300k miles. Also got some 17inch wheels and some Goodyear’s on her.
At first everything was fine under 50 mph but over had a terrible vibration, then at 60 would go away but back after 63mph

did two road force balances and now a slight vibration over 70. Also changed out with spare due to problems with balancing on front drivers tire.
Anything else you guys think I should check???

What tires? Stock wheels or aftermarket?

if you have an aggressive at or mt tire; a slight vibration at high speeds sometimes is just par for the course.

Vibes can be tough to track down; but other things that come to mind could be wheel itself, especially if it’s aftermarket and not hub centric; could be rotors (though often you’d feel a shake when braking then too); could be a cv axle starting to go; could be driver side diff needle bearing.

I assume this wasn't an issue before you made the changes but check your lower ball joints, front end vibration is a symptom of them being worn. LBJ failure is a common issue on third gens, and it can cause your wheel to fall off.

Ok here’s an update. Mechanic stated no issues on front suspension. So going to start looking into the lug / hub centric. Didn’t have to issue with factory 16in wheels after lift was installed. However I didn’t drive it at highway speeds since tires were in poor condition.
Any ideas where to start with the hub / lug centric bs??

thanks so much for the help, y’all rock

They make a ring that can be added to make it a hub centric wheel or I would starte by searching for wheels styles that you like and check if they are a 106mm hub bore . I believe the hubs are the same on the 4runners as the Tacomas . I had the same issues with after market wheels on my Tacomas in the past and the I hard that Toyota trucks use hub centric wheels. Hope this helps !

from what I’ve seen so far is the method 703-704 wheels I have are 106.25mm. Will the .25mm be an issue?
the quick looking around on internet found some rings that are around $12.00 each, any suggestions on which ones are better?
    I appreciate the help

The .25mm shouldn't make that much if any difference in my opinion. It really isn't much. My after market wheels are 106.2 as for the rings . I cannot commit due to I have never ran rings . Maybe some one that has any knowledge with them can chime in .

I’ll definitely check into the hubs. I doesn’t feel like they are locked. Been running it around. Just a light vibration at around 70.

So it did not have any vibes before wheels and tires from what it seems like your saying. Obviously, it’s either the wheels or tires. I would only run hub centric wheels. I have owned many Toyota trucks over the years and the only time I had a vibe was when I tried to run lug centric wheels. Lesson learned.

oh, another time I had vibes was when discount let a new guy balance my tires and he screwed up. Took it back and rebalanced, vibes gone.

    Hello everyone

I am your 3rd gen genie. Your issue is not your rotors as you did not state it vibrates when you brake. It is not the tires as they have been road force balanced. Your issue that EVERYONE has or will experience is the draftshaft is out of balance. TADA! How do I know? 2 of my 3rd gens experienced the same. You have a few choices: 1. Take your truck to a driveline shop that deals with driveshafts (18 wheelers or something like that), 2. Order and aftermarket one (example: https://driveshaftstore.com/Toyota-4Runner-Driveshaft-1999) DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF FROM THE STEALERSHIP! 3. Last but not least, go to a junk yard and snatch one off of one!! just change the ujoints on it if they have not been changed. You want ZIRC fittings anyways.

Yes I accept cash only. No bitcoin at this time :) LOL!!!

    Let me know your results.

Your driveshaft doesn't just one day get out of balance unless you smack it on something and dent it...

Unfortunately our 3rd gens do suffer it. Why? There is a unserviceable rubber gasket that is at the head/front and it warps the driveshaft. Trust. Take a look at some overpriced driveshafts. That new driveshaft is welded instead of open with that silly open gasket area. I have been through this. Trust me.

See pictures for reference - Aftermarket left OEM right

What aftermarket brand/company did you purchase the left one from?

The last owner of my 4runner was diligent about greasing the zerks on the drive shaft. Haven't had any issues with play,

thanks I will be definitely looking in to this. Just got her running again after new alternator, plugs, wires, coils, and injectors. So now it’s vibrating at highway speeds once again. Work always gets in the way!
