What would Toyota do?

I came across this article about a Jeep owner who's warranty was voided because he drove through mud. "Trail Rated"???

I wonder what Toyota would do? Has anyone gone this far with a warranty claim?

I hate to agree but I must. Toyota would tell you to kick rocks (unless there is a TSB about it). Even then we all know the sh1t they pull.

I have not heard of anyone having issues due to driving a 4Runner through mud.

It's hard to judge without really knowing what that Jeep went through. I haven't heard of this being a regular problem. It seems like it this would be a common situation, or this particular owner was really beating the shit out of the Jeep.

 

Let’s just say I’m skeptical of people that scream “my warranty is voided” on the internet, then admit to a LITTLE bit of horseplay.

 

This situation isn't anything like what happened with that Jeep, so not a great comparison.

I would agree that regardless of the type of driving being done, those rear brakes were way beyond reasonable wear in that many miles. I drive the piss out if my 4runner, and the brakes are still excellent nearing 50K.

However, brakes are a wear item and not designed to last forever. I would bet anyone who tows often would need brakes while still in the warranty period. That's why they're not really covered under warranty unless they're somehow defective. Again, I'm not saying that level of wear is at all normal, but I can see why they wouldn't warranty pads and rotors.

I didn't notice if the guy tried taking it up with Toyota? I haven't really heard much bad about Toyota not taking care of their customers. In general, I thought that Jeep was pretty good as well. Of course there will always be exceptions. But, this sounds like it was an issue with the dealer, not Toyota.
