On the drive over to my parents house from Illinois to Maryland... I pondered the following question to no good answer....

If someone buys a TRD Pro and mods past the TRD PRO platform, will it still be considered a TRD Pro or just a modded SR5? Strictly for resale value...???

    Mods don’t change the VIN.

Badges and stickers...the earlier 2nd gen Tacoma TRD Off Road and Sport models used to have an SR5 badge also on the tailgate. At some point Toyota must have decided to purify the models, as in 2012 the SR5 tailgate badge went away.

It’s a good question, trust me I love the TRD Pro, but I chose an TRD Off Road Premium with XP and KDSS for the fact that I couldn’t seem to find a Pro. mine has most of the Pro options I’d like not including JBL audio and TRD Pro skid. I have the Pro Grill, TRD wheels, badging etc. no roof basket as I have a Thule Roof topper and would not have been able to use with the Pro one anyway. My point is I can’t answer your fair question, but I wonder if I should have just waited? I’m also about $1500 into mods so far so I’m approaching Pro price anyway. Love them all so it’s a great “problem” to have!

You're going to have to spend a lot more to get anywhere near PRO prices. I have a '19 ORP with KDSS and all kinds of mods and not at PRO MSRP yet.

Respectfully speaking I think I’m close. Which means I probably paid too much!

    On the subject at hand:

The mods on a Pro, or any trim don't change resale value. I don't believe the resale value would be lowered unless the mods were really crummy.

On the topic of SR5 vs PRO, I have an SR5 that I would not trade for any PRO because of my mods, however I think people clamor for the PRO because of what it is.
I don't have an SR5 because of financial restrictions - I wanted 3rd row seating and wanted to mod it and I did not want a Limited. YMMV

Perhaps the real question is whether he uses he/him or they/them pronouns.
