Does anyone have a theory on why Toyota started manufacturing V8 4Runners(2003-2009)and why they stopped.

Not sure but I wish I could still buy a new one or find a great used one!

I got lucky finding a white one owner SR5 V8 2wd with 99k miles. This thing looks like it just drove off the show room floor. Paid $13,900.00. I really need to load some pictures for you guys to see this thing. It must have been driven from a home garage to a parking garage and never got on the freeway. Our Houston highways will destroy the exterior of any vehicle.

I figure they stopped because they didn't want the 4runner taking sales from the GX. And their research must have indicated that the 4runner wouldn't lose enough sales to make it worthwhile. As much as I would love another V8, there wasn't a single second I considered another vehicle just to get a V8. I think Toyota knows this.

That was one of my theories also. I was strongly considering the GX460 but I didn't need or want the 4WD. Just needed the V8 to pull my boat around. I have a 16' Kenner that we keep at Tiki Island near Galveston and the V8 4Runner was absolutely what the doctor ordered.

As much as I find the V6 to be perfectly adequate, I do sometimes miss that beautiful torque! I had a '15 Tacoma between 4runners, so that got me ready for towing with a 6. Even carrying more weight, the new 4runner was an improvement over the Taco.
