That cute little thing won’t do anything in a collision. The underlying structural part of the bumper is there for that.

I just had a young girl back into me in a parking lot. She hit my Victory 4x4 rear bumper. I really wanted aluminum when I bought this but I settled for steel. I happened to be sitting in the 4 Runner when it happened, otherwise I probably wouldn’t even have known about it. She destroyed the back plastic bumper on her Mazda 3. I felt sorry for her. There was only a little stripe of white paint on mine. She said she’d take care of it, so that was that. I told her not to worry about the paint, I’d remove it myself.

I imagine it wouldn't do much for a collision in a freeway due to stop-n-go traffic, or something similar. I don't think the math on a $1k steel rear bumper makes sense given my current use of the truck. Plus it doesn't really make the car look cool like a front C4 bumper does haha.

But how about protecting the rear bumper from light touches, <<15mph? I have a ball mount that I leave on bc I do tow a dirt bike often, but I know that's actually quite unsafe.

Even a light touch on a hitch can bend the actual frame of the truck. Happened to me. Rear ended by someone going about 10-15mph and direct hit to hitch. Bent the frame. I’d rather she hit the bumper instead.
