What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

My 2016 wheel looks good as new. I use Meguiars Gold Class Rich Leather spray on the whole interior, plastics included. Hands down my favorite interior product.

 

That's what I use too even though there's no real leather in there lol. It does a great job on plastics though and not shiny so no glare in the windshield. I don't want the wheel to be slippery and I don't drive it every day so I only put a little on the wheel, let it sit for a day or so then wipe off whatever I can. I also use a sun screen to protect the wheel and dash.

 

I think you're using something different. There are two versions out there. The stuff I use is extremely shiny which is what I love.

It's Meguiar's, you can't go wrong either way. I'm getting ready for my big annual detail. Wash, clay, wash, polish, glaze, seal, wax. Wheels will come off, wheel wells will be detailed, wheels cleaned and waxed. All exterior plastics will be Cerakoted (new product on the market) I bought 2 kits so hopefully more than enough to do all the plastics under the hood also. My research on it shows it to be an amazing product that lasts for years with one treatment. Makes plastics look like they are painted and polished, very deep high gloss shine. We'll see!

 

I just don't have the patience any more for doing such deep detailing lol! I have seen videos of the Cerakote and it seems like a great product. I'm glad you're going to be the guinea pig on this one lol!

I agree, I think you should detail his 4Runner for him. If he lived closer that is!

Started my detail about 10:30 Hope I finish before dark! Washing portion isn’t even finished yet. Decon is done, clay is done, working on wheels, then 2nd body wash, dry, blow off, dry again, start polishing.

 

At least you have a nice day and beautiful surroundings to work in. Watch out for acorns bopping you on the noggin!

 

Most of them have fallen at this point. I park away from the trees though. They were crazy at one point.

 

An update on this. A couple tanks after this, i reached 405, 408 then 410. Last night I filled up, 385 . I guess winter blend gas is here.

 

I noticed same... been monitoring my MPGs closely as I was trying something out. I was averaging 16.7mpg, so last week I made it a point to ease up on acceleration and cruise at no higher than 60mph. My MPG went up to 18.9. And then in the last 3 days temps dropped to 50ies and I am at barely over 17mpg. I would see instant mpg considerably lower on the same stretches of road....
I think that it’s because our trucks have aerodynamic properties of a brick house. I’ve seen just how big of a change slowing down 5mph was, and temp change just further solidified that theory.

 

Run ethanol free if you have it in your area. Picked up 2 mpg vs regular ethanol gas.

Finally got my sliders on. Probably weird for first exterior mod/upgrade, but the wife has short legs and these will help her get in.....I love em', but what a process getting them from Metal Tech.

 

Having lived in SoCal I didn’t really have a need for heated seats, but now living where it gets cold I decided to get them.

I already had Clazzios seat covers which are the best, so I purchased their heated seat add on for Toyota’s.

Took me about 4 hours, but I had to R & R the front seat covers and disassemble the center console.


I tapped into the cigarette lighter power for main power, and tapped into the green wire on the A/C controller illumination wire harness to provide dimmer/backlighting. All in all a pretty simple install, other than a couple screws, most of the center console is just clipped in, so a little tug and it all comes apart.
The switches for the heated seat are the same size as the blanks in the center console, so it looks OEM, pretty much plug and play.



Now I’ll have a warm butt and back.

 

Wash, clay, wash again, dry, glaze, seal. Wax will be applied tomorrow, ran out of usable daylight. Should look even better once the wax is applied! Ah, and yes, a bird shit in my windshield already!

 

Not to be a buzz-kill or anything, but after being a (safety-first/high-performance) driving instructor for years, why would the top of the steering wheel ever have hands on it that might cause this, or is this not related to having been subject to oils from the hands?

 

Sliders are an excellent first mod! Especially if you head Offroad at all; they should be one of the first armor investments. Rocker panels are quite vulnerable.

I think it's more from the sun drying out the top of the 'wheel.

My son's Honda did this over the years, I think at the low rate of problems it may be more about what people chemistry is or the lotion or cleaner they use on their hands. Sometimes it is in maintenance meds people take. I would say the COVID-19 daily alcohol/disinfectant may produce a rash of them soon.

 

I lube mine up with Purell hand sanitizer all the time........I'm sure the alcohol will do some damage to the leather wheel ?...and my skin too!

 

I've been using hand sanitizer since I bought my truck in 2018 and don't have any peeling. I doubt that's it.

I don't use any cleaners on the steering wheel or Softex. Only water and a rag.

 

Hey what kind of rack is that you have? By chance is it the LFD off-road bars and wind fairing?

 

One day, I see myself replacing the whole steering wheel with an aftermarket option and rigging up some old Nintendo controllers or something for the buttons.
