    Hey all,

I purchased and installed a T9 head unit somewhat recently. I have been learning how to use it, customizing it, etc. No major problems aside from the usual ones associated with the product: wireless CarPlay is slow and skippy, along with other issues; installed launcher doesn't boot when I start the car, sometimes backup camera just doesn't show up, etc.

I'm not an Android user, but I have just become introduced with the concept of "rooting." My understanding is it is similar to jail breaking an Apple device, which I have done before. I've heard of and seen others do it with other head units running various versions of the Android operating system. However, I am not familiar with the concept of rooting or the process of it. I just know it will unlock a whole new range of possibilities for the unit, with the possibility of making mistakes that could render it unusable.

I was wondering if anyone who has experience with this type of thing can walk me through the process? Or what types of things I can do after its done? Please keep in mind I have no idea what I'm doing. Running Android 10.

    Thanks in advance!

i'd be careful trying to root the t9 as you might just brick it. AFAIK, the t9 is running on the latest stable and tested version of android. have you tried to ask this rooting question on the FB T9 group?

I didn't purchase from CTH (Rhino Radios was cheaper) so I don't think I can join the group...

    All of them.
Personal opinion having rooted and jailbroken devices before. Don’t. Especially something like this. While the benefits out weigh the negatives one incorrect application install could create devastating results. And there are sometimes where going back isn’t going to happen.

I really just want a custom UI that is cleaner, more attractive, and more functional. Ideally, one that resembles the XTRONS units. None of the downloadable launchers from the Play Store are good in my opinion.

Agama is the best one and I can't get it to launch when I boot the car (the default launcher boots, despite having Agama set as my home app. Agama doesn't show up until I press the home button.)

i also have agama. when i start my truck, it defaults to agama. but i also have carplay set to automatically launch. if i turn off automatic option in autokit.apk, my agama comes up everytime. but i still see the android boot up screen. but i never seee the android back icons anymore.

have you tried to install agama again?

I will uninstall and reinstall agama. Did you have to do anything besides set it as your home app to get it to launch when you start the vehicle? Also, how did you get your carplay to launch automatically? I would really like if either agama or carplay started when I started the car, not that stupid ugly default launcher screen. Not sure how to go about the autokit.apk bit either, I'm bad at android :help:

I need to find the setting, if I remember correctly you have to assign Agama or the Android is to launch Agama automatically. Also I assign autokit to launch automatically too. I’ll poke around and see if I can take some pics.

regarding the CTH T9, try to see if you can become a member. At least you can read up on the latest topics.

Okay, thank you in advance. It would be very helpful to just have everything work when I start the car, it will especially help the aesthetic to not see that fugly default launcher every time I get in
