Good lord. I post a thread on another 4Runner site asking for tips on how to get the most out of my truck if it were to get totaled. And all of the sudden everyone is an auto body tech and is telling me how cheap it will be to fix it.

Don't remember asking anyone about that but maybe I forgot what I wrote.

Saw that post. Best option, get as many Craigslist and Dealer printouts as you can with similar vehicles. I've had two totaled motorcycles and for the most part the insurance companies have paid out on average of the market value for my area. Kelly Blue Book really doesn't mean as much these days anymore.

thanks for the tips. i figured getting comparable listings is my best bet on establishing a real world market value and getting what my truck is worth.

Gear oil? Sounds like you were over due. Once I get back from my trip up north next week I need to chisel my front diff bolt out and change the oil/put the new bolt in.

well shit, 30-40mph i have a hard acceleration vibration. then it goes away. is like a grinding vibration. Wonder if its cause i had a lot of fluid spill out. My brand new cv better not be bad.

You didn't replace the gear oil that came out? I can't remember if you're a V6 or 8? If V6 you should be fine until you fill it, but if you have the 8 I'd get some gear oil in there ASAP. Other than that, the last time I had a vibration it was because I forgot to tighten my lugs and was driving around with a rear tire about to fall off.

I have the v8. It feels like the CV is binding to me. I had not put anymore fluid since i swapped. Its only 30-40mph under hard acceleration, not normal acceleration.

Front diff gear oil is likely low and I'd start there. Did you do both bearings or just one side? Might be the other side is ready to go too.

both hubs/bearings were swapped. Only the driver side CV axle was changed. Its definitely Driver side related.

I'm still betting on gear oil. Probably binding in the front diff since you're AWD.

Ordered Metal Tech rear springs per @LTDSC advice on that thread I was asking you questions on over on T4R. I also didn't realize how cheap the Icon's actually were, so I ordered a set of the 2.0s w/ remote reservoirs utilizing one of the vendor's 20% off black friday discount. While I was at it, I also ordered MT rear bump stops and extended brake lines.

Now it's time to let my saving's account breath and get replenished. I should be able to recoup some cash from my Superflex and rear 5100s at least.

Have you ever changed the needle bearing? I wonder if that could be the issue. ECGS makes a bushing to fix the needle bearing issues.

Total Automotive. Don't think they're a vendor here yet are they? Shoot the dude a PM over on T4R, or there's also Wheeler's is doing 15% and there's another one I saw in the Black Friday thread on TW that's doing 20%.

Yeah unfortunately I can't swing the coil overs for the front. I'm happy with the way the 5100 and 885 in front is though so I can deal for a bit. I just haven't been happy with the rear end off road.

How's the combo? I've heard it's either too hard or perfectly smooth

I mean, it's definitely stiff in the front, but it's not an overbearing stiff. On Road it's very stable. Offroad (and speed bumps at speed) the combo soaks it up great. I do have skid plates and sliders though to help add weight for the spring rate. The rear I'm just really not happy with. I don't know if it's the 5100s, or the Superflex + spacer (for driver lean) that's causing the "bam!" when the rear drops, but I'm pretty well over it.

t4r is at the dealership. The tech agrees that it feels like the needle bearing. Hes going to do research on the difference if any of the AWD diff and part time diff. Visually they look the same so if thats the case hes just going to swap out the bearing and hope thats it.

Damn I forgot about that bushing not working with AWD. It only mentions 4Runner though. 6 speed FJ's are AWD too IIRC.

i cant use that bushing but i should be able to swap the needle bearing with a stock one. Which is around $11 at the dealer. So we will see what they come up with. Hopefully not killing my wallet. Also hope to have it back soon, worried they may need to wait for parts.

My Icons just showed up. That was unexpected. Now to decide if I want to put them on before or after I go out of town next week.

Yeah, that does not look right. Glad you got a "cheap" fix. My passenger side CV is leaking at the boot and it probably just needs to be pulled out and reclamped, but I'm thinking I'll replace them both right now @ just under 100k and reboot the ones I have for trail spares.
