What wheel offset for 2.5"-3" lift and 285/70/17s?

Once I get some other stuff sorted out, the plan is a Dobinsons IMS 2.5" or 3" lift. Also need wheels and tires. So I might as well step up to 285s. I know wheel offset plays a big role also in tire rubbing. Is there an offset that I can run that wouldn't require a body mount chop? While still bringing the tire out to about flush?

Also what's the stock offset? I'm more familiar with Tacomas but I'm not sure if it's similar.

 

Stock offset on SR5 wheels is like +25mm, Off roads I believe is +15mm. If you’re wanting to make the 285’s flush with the fenders you’ll want to go with -10mm at least, but you’re more than likely going to rub on the body mount and need a body mount chop if your going to off-road. You could probably get away with the rubbing if you’re not going to off-road.

 

When you say offroad wheel, do you mean this one?




I am going off road so it sounds like I should be prepared to body mount chop.

 

Sorry I hadn’t seen what vehicle you had, but for your stock wheel size you might be fine running 285’s. Only thing is with positive offset and just like Tacoma’s, you risk rubbing on the UCA. If you’re going 285’s just be ready to modify more parts in order to run them properly.

 

I'm also planning on using SPC UCAs. Hopefully that will help.

 

You should be good then, just keep in mind that the bigger you go with negative offset the more you’ll rub on the body mount.

Don’t know if you figured everything out by now or not. Those stock wheels will likely cause the tire to rub your UCA if you run 285. Offset differs per width of each wheel relative to the backspacing. Those wheels have a 5.5 backspace. It’s recommended to run approximately 4.5 backspacing with 285s although some have gotten away with it on stock wheels without wheel spacers it’s not usual. I run 285 on and 8 inch wide wheel with 4.5 backspace and it sits pretty flush with the wheel well.
The lower the number for backspace, the further it pushes the wheel from the truck

 

Yes I think I've figured it out. I've ordered the FN Overlander wheels, 17x8.5, -6mm offset, 4.5" backspacing. I've already got in the Nitto Terra Grapplers G2 in 285/70r17s. I'm having a local fabricator build me a bumper and sliders. While it's there, I've having him do the BMC just as a precaution. Also I already have the SPC UCAs, just waiting patiently on the Dobinsons IMS lift. That's on backorder. Hopefully that will be here in about 6 weeks. I can't really do anything until the lift comes in. I have the XREAS system that will need to be removed to do sliders, which can't be removed until the lift comes in. I can go ahead and have the front bumper fabricated, but can't actually install it until the lift is installed.

BMC is a good idea, mainly if your going to do any off-roading. You could always have him do the chop and start your plastic clearance in the wheel wells in the meantime. Post pictures when your done
