Hello, i purchased a 2nd gen 1990 4runner. I was going to see if I could get some feed back. My 4runner almost starts and then it stops trying after a half of a second. Then all I can here is the engine wine while it tries to turn over.
    It's a 1990 toyota 4runner, SR5 3.0
    208k miles
I've replaced the fuel pump, Fuel Filter, spark plugs, plug wires, and distributor head and rotor inside, I've also done a oil change.
I cannot figure out what's going on... Any feed back is appreciated

When you say the engine whines, you mean the starter disengages and continues to spin when it doesn’t start?

Yes, I can hear it disengage and continue to spin after it fails to completely start. Side Note: previous owner had to hit the starter to get it to even work. Hope I'm explaining well enough and providing enough information.

    Sounds like a starter issue

Replace the starter. If the previous owner had to hit it, you most likely need a starter.

Alright, I changed the starter. It almost starts and then it just gives up.
Update: I lied, We hooked my f150 up to the 4runner and then she finally started to run after 5 cranks.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!! I appreciate you all!

If it does it again, replace the battery. Glad you got it running.
