Looking for 2020 TRD Pro Army Green

Great idea.. if you can wait, then wait until they change to a new one in 22

 

I’ve considered that. But I regretted doing that same thing on my 3rd gen Tacoma.

I’m confident I know what I’m getting with the 5th gen 4Runner engine/trans. They have been making it for decades! I know it works. With a new design, they’re always working out the kinks the first few years.

 

The only problem with that idea is these 4R's still might be like gold next year. I was offered $51K to trade mine for a Jeep. I saw a used Army Green going for $57K. I would justly new this year if possible.

 

I have considered that. Army Green is probably the most popular Pro color so far. I do not forsee Lunar Rock topping it next year. And then add Covid shutdown. It may go up in value due to rarity/demand.

 

I may have found a source on a different Army Green TRD Pro. This one hasn’t been messed with by the dealer and it totally stock. I should have more info this afternoon. Stay tuned!

 

I noticed Fred Anderson Toyota(Raleigh NC) had one come in last week. Great guys and no dealer mark up. I just got a great deal on my 4runner there and I would travel to them again just because they were so great to deal with, especially being from out of state. I saw a thing that dealers are often doing dealer markups in some areas up to over 16k above MSRP on the TRD PROS especially the army green version. Call them and ask for Carl

 

We just got our 2020 Pro in AG. Our dealer, Ressler Toyota of Bozeman Mt. has another coming in soon with no mark-ups beyond MSRP. Ask for Preston and he'll get you reserved.

 

Great intel. Bozeman is decently close to me. I could make the trip from Salt Lake City in a half-day. It’s just a question of timing. We leave SLC on the 18th. I’ll have to ask if the truck will be in Bozeman before then.

I also found one in NM that I am trying to buy. It’s on the way back home from vacation, so I could swap on the way back to Texas. They gave me a good price on trade-in. The issue right now is “deposit to hold”.

Lots of dealerships will not hold a Pro on deposit because they’re so high-demand. My sales rep says they can hold it no problem, for a nominal deposit. When I pressed for specifically how much was needed to hold it (and I would just use that amount as cash down-payment too) he said he would need to check with his Assistant Manager. Assistant Manager deferred to the Sales Manager. Of course Sales Manager is out over Labor Day weekend. So we’ll see if everything shakes out on Tuesday, and they’ll actually let me put the truck on hold until the 19th/20th.

Not crazy about the Sequoia, but my cousin (family-man) has the Sienna and loves it.

For me though, it’s Army Green Pro 4Runner or bust.

 

The high price of those 4 Runners with army green seems to get more exaggerated as they get older. They should depreciate like the others but I’m guessing they won’t. I guess I’m lucky, colour preference has never been my thing. I’d sooner take any colour on the lot, new, than a used vehicle just to get the colour.

 

It’s not just the color. It’s the Pro features too.

I never thought I would want a Pro. I always reasoned, “I can spend less money on an Off Road and just add the suspension I want. I’ll spend less money in the long run and have a better setup.” And for the most part that is true.

But as I have owned more Toyota vehicles and modified them, I realized that it’s never the same as factory. I have owned six different Toyota 4x4s. After modifying them with suspension lifts and armor and accessories, I have always regretted it. The trucks drove better before I started tinkering with them. The suspension is noisy or the tires rub or the mileage sucks. Whatever.

And a large portion of the “upgrades” for vehicles are far worse than what came from the factory. It makes me weep when I see someone remove a set of Toyota alloy wheels that were made in Japan, and swap on a set of Moto wheels from Discount Tire.

But I digress. If you want a highly capable vehicle, but want to keep it mostly stock, the Pro is a good option. At least for me.

Then, if I’m going to get the Pro, I want to get Army Green. It’s the best of all the Pro colors IMHO.

 

I totally agree, will van, I like army green, and can understand anyone liking it. I also agree about mods, which is definitely part of my philosophy to keep things modest and functional. The high speed drivability of a 4 Runner is an attribute I would never want to lose, which is btw, one reason I like KDSS. I’ve said this before, but if Toyota put out a vehicle that the tires rubbed, weighed 1500lbs more and wore out brakes fast, got terrible mileage with oversized tires and couldn’t beat a bicycle from a red light would anyone buy it like that?

 

And I can totally understand the motivation - Modifying vehicles is fun!

But I also see off road vehicles that have been kitted out for a SEMA show that people lust over. Huge lifts with big wheel/tire packages and tons of accessories for living off grid and overlanding. Do they look cool? Sure.

But I just think what a royal PITA they would be to actually daily drive.

I guess as I have become more experienced, I’m also more conscious of what I’m actually doing with the vehicle and how I want it to perform on a daily basis. And most people seriously underestimate how a 5th gen will perform with good (stock-ish sized) tires and a decent driver.

 

My first time posting here since trading in my Tacoma for a 4Runner off road. Precision Toyota in Tucson,AZ will have an Army Green in stock in October for MSRP.

I have found a couple of semi-local dealers with the truck in stock. But they all want to add a $5k markup over MSRP. That puts the truck in the $57k to $58k range. I’m just not sure I’m willing to spend that much. It was kind of a stretch at $52k.

Really what I should have done is order one at an agreed-upon price earlier in the year. Right now I just don’t have any leverage because they are so rare, in high demand, and no new orders because the 2021s are coming out.

I may have missed the boat.

 

Yea I wouldn’t pay that either. That’s crazy. Be patient

You have to look at a truck in person and negotiate.. submit an official offer 1k above msrp and they will give it you. You think everybody wants army green, but there are also folks that want 2021 now. Also, there is a chance army green won’t come back to pro and it will hold value better.

 

I agree, it’s best to look at the truck in person.

Right now there are too many factors working against me. Pro trucks are rare to begin with. Army Green is also a popular color on top of that. Then add Covid. Plus, the 2021 trucks are coming out, so there are no new orders for 2020 Army Green Pros. Dealers that have them usually have them pre-sold.

The rare dealer that has one on the lot, and not pre-sold knows what they have. They seem to be across-the-board marking them up $5k. That’s because they’re in high demand, but also because other dealers will dealer-trade for the truck at that price.

Then there’s my personal situation. I’m not paying cash for the 4Runner. And I still owe on my Tacoma. So I have to trade-in and finance. That limits my negotiating leverage. There are just too many ways the dealer can squeeze me.

But honestly, it was probably a stretch to begin with. I sorta casually thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool to start my vacation in the Tacoma, and get a 4Runner on the way?!”

But at this point I’m forcing it. There are a few dealers in Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico that could sell me an Army Green 4Runner. But I would take it in the tailpipe to make it happen.

So I’m just going to concede. Finish paying off the Tacoma. Regroup and approach again next Spring. I am already starting to see demo trucks and low mileage trade-ins popping up. I am hoping an opportunity arises in the used market next year, and I can pay cash.

 

So the most recent semi-local dealer has offered the truck at close to MSRP ($53k), free delivery, and $30k for my Tacoma trade-in (minus the $19k I still owe on it).

Should I pull the trigger? Or nah?

Haha, thanks! The FJ40 is a cool truck. And fun to toodle around town in good weather. It will climb over anything in 4 low.

But it would be miserable to drive across the country. They fill different needs.

 

If you are happy with the trade price then go for it especially with the free delivery.
