    Hi all,

Got my wife a 2020 SR5 a few months ago and fell in love with it myself, so I went and got a 2020 TRD OR today.

Wife wasn't thrilled about the idea because she didn't want me copying her lol but it just drives so good! I couldn't help myself.

I've had a 2019 Tacoma in the past and Toyota couldn't fix the front end shaking it had. The power delivery and transmission were also terrible. But the 4Runner is nothing like that! Both of ours run butter smooth and power is just fine, no down shifts because of a head wind like the Tacoma. I'll mod the crap out of it in the future but no current plans until I get my bonus in December.

I was less excited about buying it before purchasing compared to after. When you already have something, you just can't get worked up like you could if it was new new. But driving home and enjoying every second of it just made my day! She doesn't like me to drive hers so I had forgotten just how great it was.

    Happy to be here, thanks!

    Welcome, we also have 2 4Rs... both MGM... a 17 SR5 and a 19 ORP.

Both set up the same... if I buy one thing I may as well buy 2 because she's going to want it also... that shit gets old quick.

Least you can save by buying oil filters in bulk!

    Nice!

Tried to talk my partner into a 4Runner.

    Got a 2020 Rav4 TRD instead.

Your post is timely cause just today my wife is driving my Limited and is like, hey, I want a truck too. Need a truck. And I'm like, uh, doesn't make much sense to have two 4Rs, like, you know, gas mileage and such. In a zombi apocalypse we've already got one as a bug out vehicle and wouldn't we want to be fleeing together? And doesn't it seem like your Mini Cooper is a nice compliment to the 4R for regular duty, being small and nimble with high MPG?

But I can tell she's gotten the bug!!! Maybe I can talk her into a Highlander?!

Haha that's what I had originally told my wife about the 4Runner when I was driving a large truck and she had a Camry. Like come on.... we don't need 2 gas guzzlers.... we don't need 2 trucks... Then her mom passed last mother's day and to help dig her out of that hole I showed up one day with the SR5. My daughter is about to be 16 and needed a car anyways, she got the Camry. My job is only 13 miles from the house so it's almost irrelevant what I drive as far as MPG. That's how I always justified to her why I could have the truck lol.

LOL yes, in my case I justified the 4R MPG because we have the Mini so could use that for daily errands etc. Also my job is nearby (and they sent us home to boot). There are many days neither of us even leave the house. But I'm trying to consider a future that includes a long commute.

Wonder what people here think of the Highlander? and the Highlander Hybrid? The MPG numbers on that thing are astonishing. Like 34 MPG both city and highway. And it's about as big and heavy as the 4R. I mean, I'd never trade my 4R for one, but as a second car that's economical?

Edit: PS getting that Runner for your wife was sweet of you. Good job. And your daughter will be lucky to have a Camry as a first car. You have a nice fleet for the family! Reminded me that I know someone who got a new Corolla just before having her first child, drove the baby home in it and drove it daily until the kid turned 17, then gave it to her. Nice.

Looks like a sweet house with a sweet combo of vehicles! What do you think of the RAV4? I'm weighing whether we should get one of those or a Highlander / hybrid or something else entirely as my wife's DD.

    Thanks.

I would hold off on the Rav4. The 2020's are having battery problems. We had our 1st battery replaced by the dealership, 2 months ago, and it looks like it might need another one. I had to jump it again last week. If you don't drive the Rav4 everyday the battery dies and needs to be jumped.

Reading the Facebook 2019-2020 Rav4 groups it's a common problem that Toyota hasn't solved yet.

Otherwise the car is fun to drive. The AWD and TRD suspension really hugs the curves. Acceleration is pretty good but noisy to some. I don't mind the noise and find myself getting real close to redlining it going 0 to 60 out of my private road.

Congrats! I just traded my 2019 TRD O/R for a 4R too. I just didn't care for the power band and transmission.

Congratulations! I too dumped my Tacoma because of the not so nice new powertrain! Love my 4Runner!

So much smoother and less gear searching. I'll miss the truck BED occasionally, but just go rent a trailer if I need one.
My favorite vehicle was a 2007 FJ, and I've had dozens of trucks and SUVs.
The Tacoma must be one of the most over hyped cars on the road. I wanted to grab the 4L with this tranny before Toyota screwed the 4R up too.

    You both made great decisions.

Thanks! And I agree, blows my mind how bad they neutered the Tacoma and just like you, I was afraid they will do the same to the new 4Runner. My Tacoma lived in 4th gear to maintain highway speeds but ultimately it was the un-fixable shaking that made me toss it. I know 2 other people that did the same and one of my managers is going through it right now. 3 sets of tires, 4 alignments, 10+ tire balances and it still shook. Bone stock

I was so nervous about test driving the 4Runner after that experience but I was very surprised, I can accelerate on the highway in 5th and no vibrations. It feels like a proper truck with a truck engine and gearing. I've had dozens of trucks and cars too, you might say I have a habit of trading way too often but I may put a ring on this one.

Well we had to disagree on something eventually lol. I love JDM 4 doors. WRX, Civic Si, Type-R I've had them all in multiple flavors. I also realllly like the ILX, good old school Honda K-series VTEC engine. Once my 2011 Accord V6 gives up I'll probably grab a used ILX as my bad weather car. Not sure the Accord will ever die though, 127k miles with zero issues since new.
