Yeah, I'd be worried about the spot where the plate mounts connect to the tube. That looks like a serious weak point from the pics.

I don’t think they would be much protection against door dings.

I had a set from an FJ I modified for my 1st gen when I had it. Put some DOM legs on them. They actually took rock hits pretty well. But wouldn’t trust the stock legs on them at all.

YES !! Thanks so much. I'll add these to the other TRD accessories to negotiate with the new 2021 TRD/ORP when I order next month.

I've got a set of these that came with my 2021 ORP. Looking to sell them actually, as I'm hearing grumblings from my better half of how difficult it is to get in and out without a real step.

EDIT: Can't attest to how they perform as sliders, only 800mi on the vehicle all on pavement. They look nice, and run flush against the undercarriage.

The rock rail is pretty heavy and solid. Looks much more durable in person than in the photos.

Attached are some images showing close up of welds and dimensions.

Takes about 10 minutes to install.

Installed on drivers side this morning.

Almost as easy as the passenger side. Lots of KDSS items attached to the frame on the driver side.

I guess the only reason it seemed a little more difficult is because I did it by myself. My son wasn't here to help me so I used a Jack stand to support the front of the rail while I attach the back end. See the pictures.

I did not have to loosen any items to fit the rail in place. My only suggestion is for the top bolt on the rear bracket is to lay parallel to the car on the ground with your feet facing the front that way your right arm can reach up and insert the bolt easily. Otherwise it is difficult to twist your wrist in that tight spot from any other position.

I spent more time gathering my tools in the garage that I did installing the rock rail. Again this is on a 2021 4 runner trd off road premium with KDSS

    No issues whatsoever.

I hope you didn't forget to spray rust proof where the metal meets the frame.

Those would be several times more sturdy if they added some gussets where the arms are welded to the outer tube. Those few small welds are definitely the weak point.

Better than nothing? Sure. Not for a step though, apparently.

Look great more sturdy than what you had by far
True gussets would help but hey much much better than what wasn't there also impacts are frome the bottom up (i hope) so what you have works well
The one thing and its small...finish the well on the brackets then.... you're unstable!!

Noticed that they were only welded on one side. Weak!

Wonder you would be able to use a hi-lift jack on the Toyota ones like other rock sliders.

@kmeeg Word to the wise, open your door before you hi lift off a rocker. The truck can shift and pin the lift against your door, leaving a really ugly ding my friend was mad about...

As far as the open ends are concerned, you can buy plastic end caps from ACE Hardware to seal the ends

Here is the information on the end caps. Any end caps of this size should work. B58AF1D4-DDBA-435C-83F5-823E326CFD40.jpg

They are just extra bolts according to the Toyota parts dealer I spoke with regarding them. You don’t need them. Each slider comes with a bag of 5 bolts.

I have a brand new pair that came on my 2021 TRD off road....they do bolt to the frame just as previously pictured. But only with a few bolts, and not very strong. If you are seeking “true rock sliders”, do not be fooled by Toyota calling these rock sliders, they are not. They look like them, but are weak and recessed so much you can not stand on them to access the roof of your truck.
I Took them off for running boards. Will sell the pair with mounting bolts for $200. In New Hampshire, but understand, these are really for looks only and will not hold the weight of your truck. Shame on Toyota for charging $500+ falsely calling what they are not.

I am replacing mine with running boards for the little ones also, so there’s another set for sale in South Florida here. As someone else said, these things are more stout than the pictures show.
