    Hey 4Runner fam,

I'm lined up to get a 4Runner TRD Pro in a month or so. I live in Southwest Colorado, so I'll be frequenting the trails in and around the San Juan/Umcompahdre National Forests, Moab, Northern AZ, and the Telluride region.

I know the TRD is pretty stacked out of the box, but what mods would you guys suggest to take it to the next level of off-road capability?

Open to any and all suggestions, thanks in advance! Hyped to be a part of this community.

Clearance and high dollar suspension will make it pretty much unstoppable.

Is there a way to increase the ground clearance without touching the fox suspension? i.e. new tires?

Leave your suspension untouched and try those trails out. Maybe you won’t need to change anything? If your Fox suspension doesn’t workout for you, then reevaluate and come back here then we can suggest what you really need.

Eibach was due to release a fox pro kit. Covid will delay it until its over

That's the kit I would run if I had the factory Pro Fox suspension and wanted to upgrade the front coils.

Simplified, a lift, no matter what kind, lifts above the axles, a bigger tire would lift everything! Sure enough it isn’t that easy but it should explain. There is a bunch of parts involved that need to work in harmony so going crazy on just one part isn’t a good idea but sure a bigger tire would gain you some ground clearance!
Here is how I evaluate mods: a mass produced car is always a compromise. Sure it need to be because customers and there needs are individual. The possibility of mass production and the possible profit is as well a concern of the producer. Just think about the seat, it need to fit a tiny girl but as well the 300lbs dude. Means it fit everyone but no one perfect so does the rest of the vehicle. Anyway since you want to keep the suspension,(I got it, it’s one of the two reasons to buy a pro!) it’s the only good solution. But as mentioned before: try it out, the 4Runner is pretty capable as it is.

The Pro is not pretty stacked out of the box, I know people get excited about it and pay a ton of money for them but it’s an appearance package with a shock upgrade, there’s not really anything of substance they add to the model.

Modify it the same way you would any 5th gen 4Runner. Skids, sliders, tires, real suspension for an actual lift without spacers, usable roof rack, high clearance winch comparable bumpers, etc. whatever stuff you feel you need (realistically want is a better word) for how your going to use it.

I've wheeled for years with people on big tires and big lifts, mild lifts and some stock guys.

I went with a 2020 Pro recently with no modifications, and even the unimpressive Terragrapplers did a decent job. Stock height, stock skids (did have the Pro skid).

    All he had was sliders.

Just toss some sliders in and maybe shock protectors, and you'd be surprised at how much you have already got.

I have the 2020 pro shocks on my Venture and love them. Did some climbing in loose rocks today, more aggressive than the video, and it did great.

How much lift did you get from the Pro suspension?

About an inch up front. I bought 33's and have eibach springs in the mail. The springs will add 1.6" to the front and the rears are adjustable from 0-2.5".

That video really shows what a base 4 runner can do. That has stock STREET TIRES on it and still performed, a little sluggish in the mud, but I was impressed they made it up some of those inclines.
    Not bad for an SR5

Another good scenario for those planning to upgrade. The base machine is really quite good!

I'll get some photos later today, but we did the Eibach on my buddies AG2020 Pro Saturday. Details are:
    Stock Pro wheels and tires
JBA UCA SD High Caster (replaced OEM UCA)
Eibach spings replacing Pro Springs (had to disassemble the struts and reassemble).
    Rear Eibach springs (straight swap)

Afterwards Measured bottom of fender to center of hub:
Front 21.5 (driver) and 21.75 (passenger)
    Rear 23" both

Imagine if these guys had good AT tires. They've shown both what a stock 4Runner can do and the lack of grip that comes with the stock tires.
