    I need new tires. Going Toyo AT3 in 265/70/17. Now would be a great time to decide if I need new TRD Pro wheels or just stick with the TRD Off-roads. Is it worth the $800 for the new wheels? I’ve done the research and know it slightly changes the stance but is that really worth $800?

    Blacked out grill and rear emblem. More on the way!
    I'm going through the thought process of now about getting new wheels. Initially, I wasn't going to do it because of the added cost for something I don't need but want. The thing that has me leaning towards getting new wheels is that I'll sell my wheels I have now. So that'll cut the cost on new ones.

    The Pro wheels won't do anything but look cooler than what you currently have.

    By that theory, we should all only do custom made, one of one changes lol

    Does the “slight change to the stance” cause it to clear bigger tires than yes....

    I’m not saying that. It’s just been done to excess.

    Doesn’t really matter, if it is what a you want get it.

    Don't forget the added cost and time of swapping over the TPMS sensors.

    I wasn’t going to tell the wife about the added costs, just the main. I’ll try to keep my tpm sensors.

    How is the “stance” changed? Do the pro wheels result in a wider stance? Or narrower?

    Well the “Limited” rims track very narrow. I can notice it even though it’s only a little. So with narrower tires sometimes they can perform better. And the offset can get a taller tire? Maybe someone can measure combined width mounted?

    It was my understanding that you could run a 275/70/17 tire on an Off Road/Trail wheel with slightly less rubbing than a Pro wheel because of the backspacing. I have no experience with either, but something to consider/research.

    Also, has anyone ever noticed that this article has the backspacing incorrect? It lists the Pro/SEMA wheels as 17"x7" with +4mm offset and 4.5" backspacing.

    I know the TRD/SEMA wheels have a +4mm offset and are 7" wide. A quick offset/backspacing calculator yields a BS of 4.16" for a 7" wide wheel. Am I missing something?

    Shouldn't the specs be?...

    Trail = 17" x 7.5" w/ 4.84" BS and +15mm offset

    SEMA = 17"x7" w/ 4.16" BS and +4mm offset

    Personally I would keep the stock wheels. They don't look as good but do come with added benefits. Two of the top of the head are valve stem protection and the wider width. If you ever decide to go up in tire size that extra .5" will help. If mine didn't come with the gray TRD wheels I most likely wouldn't have them or be considering new wheels.

    If you end up getting wheels and tires, you'll have better luck selling the wheels, tires, and TPMS sensors as a package rather than separate. Just a thought.

    I like the PRO wheels, but there are so many aftermarket options. You should shop around and see if there's anything you like better. Some websites, like discounttire.com will let you view the wheels on your truck.

    will van, you can run a 275 70 17 on the stock wheels of a ORP with no rubbing, the exact offset I do not know, I just did this on our ORP, I also forgot you said "stock suspension", I have a 3" RevTek spacer in front, but there was lots of room, now I went to 0 offset after market wheels, still no chance of rubbing. I believe the 275 70 17 is about 1" taller than the 265 70 17.

    I had this same dilemma, The OffRoad stock rims are a great rim, the have the stem guard and re-enforced outer rim, they are a wider rim than the pro. My main reason for getting the pro SEMA rims was I was going for the look I wanted for my 4Runner. I have at times regretted selling my OR rims and thought about what I could have bought with the money I spent on the SEMA rims Bottom line is if you don’t mind the look of the OR rims, keep them and buy something else you want. It’s your truck, either way you can’t really lose except the pro SEMA rims are a PITA to clean.

    Good points guys. I’m not too worried about cleaning them, I had a BMW with MSport wheels. The BMW brake dust is nasty.

    Then why didn't you just grab them from the dealer honestly? You probably could of haggled them to include it or at the very minimum eat part of the $.

    It is not, unless you like the appearance. The OR wheels are actually better wheels. Wider, stronger, protected valve stem.

    I was going to go with the PRO rims, asked the parts man at the dealership about them, he gave me a lame excuse that he could only order one at a time and it would take 3 weeks to get it and all this crap, I had no idea what he was talking about, so in the mean time was figuring which rims I wanted, saw a bunch of runners with TRD PRO rims and decided against it. Then one day went to another dealer parts room asking about the PRO rims, he said if I order them on Mon. I'll have them Wed., and yaaah, I ordered some aftermarket rims, and have no regrets...... thousands of PRO rims out there, all look the same, thousands of aftermarket rims out there, and they don't look the same ! To each his/her own, I like the PRO rims also, but like the wide choice of after market rims better... Good luck CJT4Runner on choosing,,,, whatever you decide it will be right!

    I didn't know I liked them back then. And I didn't know that I was going to do so much with my 4Runner back then. I had a TJ Wrangler at one point and had no idea about anything but the stock stuff on it. 4Runner has opened up my world!

    He did. I wasn't buying.

    I wasn't really in the market for it back then, either. I'm not really going to be in the market for it until next year, too, so that's another reason why I didn't get them when first getting the truck.
