Has anyone here done a HID installation to replace your factory fog lights? Research is showing a bunch of LED replacements.

Does anyone know if the Pro led fog lights are a direct fit into a runner?

I would not do HID in the fog lights, like Hyper just said. Morimoto makes a great fog light replacement and the lenses are blacked out. They look amazing, have great output, mount to the exisiting brackets, and are plug and play. There are other brands out there as well that might require some drilling and some that mount just as easy but do some research. I personally just changed my high/low beams to a whiter halogen bulb and they are great with no extra work. I want the Morimoto HIDs for my headlights but I dont want to drill the 1inch hole in my dust caps.

    Good luck

Why not? I didn't think it was a big deal with my HIDs.

Agreed, with a step drill it's easy. Throw a little silicone for extra sealing power.

@2016Pro I just didnt want to take the chance with water. Im also waiting for Morimoto to drop their headlight replacement. Going to be expensive but there wont be any DIY drilling. If you read about people who have had moisture in their headlights seems like a bitch to get rid of. I didnt want to be bothered with that. The Halogen bulbs were cheap as hell and a great upgrade until Morimoto releases it. But like a lot of the videos show you can use a sealant.

Are those the new SAE fogs or just the regular squadrons? The new ones are the only lights legal to use on the road as fog lights.

I have the squadron R in my fog light location and they are definitely NOT sae compliant. They are much brighter than my factory headlights.

It's not the brightness that's the problem (with the Squadron lights), it's the beam pattern.

The SAE fog light squadron lights are newly approved for installation and replacement of factory fog lights. Fog lights are meant to have a low, WIDE beam pattern with a beam cut-off to prevent blinding other drivers. They're also meant to illuminate the road underneath fog or snow. If you use normal squadron lights on the road, you are blinding other drivers. If you use them during fog or snow conditions, you are blinding yourself by reflecting all of that directly back into your eyes.

If you have anything other than the SAE fog lights installed, DO NOT USE them on the road or in low-visibility weather. They are off-road only lights at that point.

And the new SAE fogs are plenty bright- just with a proper pattern and cut-off for on-road and foul weather use.

I like the OEM LED fogs. Only complaint I have is that beam is very narrow up/down. Goes super wide though which I like.
I had the non-SAE BajaDesigns which are great lights but too bright for street use so swapped to OEM LED.

The wide design with short height is intentionally designed that way, to illuminate the sides of the road in heavy weather conditions without blinding other drivers.

Also, it's not the brightness of the Baja Designs squadrons that makes them inadequate for the street- it's the beam pattern. The new Diode Dynamics SS3 pro fog lights are actually brighter than the Baja Designs; but with a much tighter, street legal beam pattern that won't blind other drivers.

I know, but the oem LED were a good bit cheaper than SAE BD or SS3 lights.

With their memorial day sale, a set of SS3 sports would have cost only $40 more than OEM fogs.

I can vouch for the tenacity of moisture in the headlight housing. It took a lot of effort to get it out of mine. Several sessions with a shop vac to get as much out as possible. Found some standing water in the projector bay which I dabbed out with a paper towel, got the rest with a dessicant pack I nabbed from something I mail ordered. I think I have it licked now. Took out the HIDs, put in fully-enclosed bulbs, and installed new caps. I might go back and seal up my caps with silicone as suggested above and reinstall the HIDs. We shall see.

Here's a comparison shot of aftermarket fogs. The Baja fogs are dimmer than stock, with more glare.

Great photos of fog light comparisons! I bought some Lasfit fogs that were supposed to fit, but the connector pins didn't line up. Truck has Osram H16, 19W now (standard?) and the Lasfit say H8/9/11/16 but the pins are further apart than what is on the truck now. Are you supposed to "bend" them to line up? That's crazy! I just wanted brighter fogs to light up the sides of the road and not blind oncoming drivers. Suggestions/help appreciated, thanks!
