285/70/17 Tires And Fuel Milage

What have y’all noticed with this jump in tire size on fuel milage? I’m contemplating going with this size tire and a small lift or leveling kit for the wife’s 2020 TRD Pro. (she’s actually wanting it more than me)

 

I had them on mine a while ago... i lost some mpg but it was negligible if i remember correctly.

 

I went P rated tire and avg is 19. I lost nothing noticable from 265 wildpeaks I had
1st 50 miles in babied it and got 22

 

Interesting thing is that lifting seems to have affected my MPG the most. I believe it's due to aerodynamic drag, and the way it was routing some air under the truck. Now much more air is routed under.

 

So it’s not a huge noticeable drop in mpg. Thanks gang!

 

I’ll chime in on this, with my OEM tires and wheels on my 2019 Off Road I was averaging 16 MPG. I installed 285/70/17 KO2 Load C and my mileage actually improved to 16.2 MPG.

 

Almost forgot and no idea if this is true for all 4runners. Using GPS and road speed detectors with the 285s my speedometer is spot on at both low and high speed. That said I never checked prior have no idea if my mpg was correct. It is now.

 

I jumped to 295’s and went from 18mpg to 15.5mpg-16.5mpg.

 

The mileage difference seems much worse if I'm in a hurry. I'm on C load 285/70/17 and I'm getting anywhere from 15 to 19 depending on what I'm doing.

This is my experience as well. With stock tires, the speedometer was always a pinch high. I've checked against GPS, and the it's dead on with the 285's.

 

do you have a roof rack, steps, extra weight added onto the 4rnr ?

 

I have Sliders, roof rack and a full size spare.

 

I run 35-36 psi. It’s lifted with a small amount of Rake and no Viper cut. I also try and stay in the Green zone when I drive, that might be a factor.
