Should I wait for 2021 Trail, or buy 2020 TRD Offroad?

I'm thinking to wait for 2021 Trail:
+Army Green colour (I like it but not paying the PRO just for colour)
    +LED headlight
-Roof rack, -cooler (totally useless for me)

One salesman told me Trail will be based on SR5:
-No rear diff lock (I live in northern Canada with heavy snow so important)
-No interior feature, no roof window, no electronic seat adjustment, no this no that (not important)
    +Cheaper Price than SR5??

    Buying 2020 TRD Offroad now:
    +Rear diff lock
    +Some discount (8%?)

    Few questions:
    1. Is it 2021 Trail really cheaper than SR5? No rear diff lock?
    2. When 2021 Trail will be available? (How long I have to wait for it? Oct? Jan?)
    3. Go for Trail or Offroad, even 2021

    Thanks.

I dunno about you but I'm looking for someone to sell me their cooler.

I don't think all the specs are out yet on the Trail so we are just guessing. Besides the cooler and roof rack. Also comes with the sliding cargo tray.

From Toyota's site it does have the extra bumper (whatever you call it) like the OR and Pro but its color matched.

all extra features are useless...in Canada -30C/F just leave anything outside it freezes itself. even the cargo tray if pulled out.
a black/colour matched bumper indeed looks better than the white one

The 2021 Trail is a package for the SR5 so it will be more than the basic SR5. If you don't need the locking diff, crawl control and such then wait. If you need those then get the OR. Looks like the 2021's will be out in Oct or Nov.

So the Trail, which, before it was the Off Road, had ALL the off-road capabilities, i.e. manual-shift transfer case, crawl control, multi-terrain select, locking rear diff, KDSS, etc., is now for 2021 a spruced-up SR5? Doesn't seem right.

I thought it was close to venture edition, but, that's what the salesman said: low price model to compete wrangler

Do you plan to do any off-roading? If yes, buy the ORP. The extra hardware and software is worth far more than a cooler or a cool color.

Calling this new rig a "Trail" is ridiculous, given the history of the name.

And yes, it's SR5-based. Says so right there on the C-pillar.

Let me add that if I were getting an SR5, this is the one I'd get. Looks terrific. Comes in some cool colors that used to be ORP-exclusive. But it's all show, no go.

Just FYI, you might not want to make your decision based on the LED headlights coming standard in 2021. It seems that many of Toyota's LED systems are as bad as halogens. Only time will tell how good the ones on the 21 4R will actually be.

Get a 2020 now, 2021 will command price premium cause they are current year model.

I bought LED replacements from aftermarket for $106.

Only get trail if you don't want to offroad but you want an exclusive color.

Not sure how soon you have to decide. In two months we might know how good the new LEDs are. They could be great, who knows. It just sure would suck if they're bad, because they'd prob be impossible to improve without ripping them completely out and installing an entire new system (eg the system from the 2020, if it's even compatible).

Something tells me they are going to have removable housings like the current gen. Pop out, pop in. NEW FEATURE! Every year they are expected to release something, they are just nursing this gen along until 6th gen comes out in a year or two. That's not a bad thing, I freaking love this gen, but don't expect big changes to production lines which would require retooling.

This is almost as bad as Chevy naming that new crossover the Blazer.

My '13 Trail is insulted by this new model, lol.

If the locking diff is the most important thing to you, then get the OR.

If color is more important, then get the Trail.

The Trail will be as expensive as the OR because of the limited color and the cooler, but it will lack the OR features.

I'm willing to bet the Trails will be delayed a bit and won't be out in October or November due to Covid. Maybe December?? Just a guess.
