Yeah, I agree. But the trouble with Jeeps is that they’re so junky as daily drivers. They’re great as fun rigs though, and especially easy to torture with modifications.

Very true, I know a guy who has a Rubicon sitting on 35's and it is pure torture to ride in. I have heard from multiple sources that you do not want a Rubicon as a daily driver just for that reason. I am sure the Bronco will be priced in the stratosphere once you add all the options not to mention dealers will be adding a hefty price much like they do with the Pro.

This is what keeps me loving the 4runner. The comfort, and reasonably quiet ride. The reliability is another factor.

I might just go drive a Wrangler sometime to ease my mind. :D

    It could.

From what I understand, past 4Runner builds are a relatively short process compared to other car manufacturer timelines. Final design work for a 6th gen would probably be completed by December 2020, then it's off to building and testing the prototypes. Of course this is all assuming we see a 6th gen come out in 2022 (Model Year 2023), which is what all the evidence is currently pointing to.

Yeah, a 2 door Wrangler on an old two lane highway for a couple of hundred miles will easily tame the wildest spirit. But around the block a couple of times on a test drive on a sunny day with the top down is heaven.

Good thread, I have been wrestling with this for a while. I have been waiting far too long for the Bronco. I planned on selling my built wrangler to get one. It does bother me that that Ford is appeasing and empowering the radicals. I loved my 2007 FJ And I know I can make a T4R OR perfect for on and off road.

I'm getting to the age that I want features and reliability. A 4runner meets my needs and then some. Being practical, I am cross shopping but its hard to find the comfort and reliability of a 4R to anything remotely as capable. IMO if you're touting "never! American crap" to the bronco you are a fan boy and need to relax. Im a long time X5 owner *gasp* but as im getting older id like a vehicle im not always worried is going to break. Apart from Toyota and jeep enthusiasts, the majority of people in the market for off road vehicles will cross shop. With thst said i found a 2020 ORP premium in NY for $43k. I highly doubt a similarly equipped bronco would anywhere near that price. Ford is stepping into arguably the largest growing market (Jeep, runner, taco,) if it holds up well on the trail it should be a cash cow for ford.

    what happened to the Jeep?

Looks a lot like a Jeep, except I do agree the 2 door looks better, way better.

If it comes with Ford quality, Jeep will have major competition. Looks only go so far after your first breakdown in a Jeep.

You keep referring to what you term 'Ford Quality'. I've read countless accounts of ex-Ford owners who would never own one again, so not everyone believes Ford Quality is something to be desired...

Every brand has a lemon. GM toasted me out of 25k in 05 with a Tahoe they turned a cheek to. Fiat burned me twice. I will never buy another.
I had 3 F150s and they had problem zero

While Ford does not contribute directly to Defund the Police. They have donated millions to the Marxist BLM movement. Companies worldwide have been shaken down the radical Marxist groups, over fear of being targeted by protestors. They are appeasing violent people that are trying to ruin this country.

The Ford foundation has donated to groups that support defunding the police. The Ford foundation is not associated with Ford motor company.

Yeah, everyone has a personal story, anecdotal information, or heresay but I’m referring to a measurable quality control program for suppliers and for production that can be documented and certified as true. More quality is always possible and desirable, but compared to the cars built in the 80s and 90s, W. Edwards Deming would be proud.

Seems to me the 4Runner has so few competitors that any new one is bound to take some sales away from Toyota. At least on paper, the new Bronco might actually be the Runner's closest competitor. There are so few choices of BOF SUVs out there. The Wrangler is close in price to the Runner but is less suited to the highway, has way less cargo space and no third row option. The Tahoe is less suited to the trail than the Runner, is pretty darn big and also a lot more expensive. The new Bronco looks like it slots between the Wrangler and the Tahoe in capability, in much the way the Runner does. In the teaser pics we've seen so far, it also looks pretty darn cool.

That said.....There's a huge reason to buy the 4R that the Bronco can't claim: proven reliability, toughness and durability. That's why I bought mine instead of a similar sized crossover that's more comfy and gets better MPG. If that's what I wanted I would have gotten a Telluride. But my top priority was something this size that has proven itself in the real world for many, many years. You can't say that about the new Bronco. And given Ford's track record you probably never will.

I was originally planning on waiting for the new Bronco to buy something new, but those things you mentioned were exactly why I ended up with a 4Runner. I think the new Bronco looks badass(and sounds good on paper) and should be more than capable off-road, but it isn't proven yet. I've had three Fords(still have one), and had good luck with all of them but anything new usually comes with some problems. Toyotas have been bulletproof since forever, plus I've always liked and wanted a 4Runner, so it wasn't a tough decision.

Some impressive specs. Too bad it's ugly.

I'm looking forward to seeing one in person. I could probably get over the grill if it's as good as it sounds.

I bet! The idea of Wrangler capability in a vehicle that doesn't suck balls as a daily driver is pretty damn exciting!

That's a really impressive looking vehicle and a hard top would make me interested, but it also seems like a lot of fuss for a vehicle not hitting the road for another 12 months.

I think it looks really mean, I could get used to that but the daily driver aspect is a huge part of it for me.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
It's definitely interesting. I'll be keeping my eye on the Bronco brand over the next few years. That 10 speed automatic might be a concern, though. The 5th gen's 5 speed may be kind of low, but it's less complicated and probably more bulletproof because of that. If they offer other automatic options, I'd be less worried.

Look at the psychology they're using to get orders.

    Screenshot_20200713-212825.jpg

"Ooh, I better order one now before they're all gone!"

If the website is overwhelmed, it's because half of Tacomaworld and 4runners.com are looking at it to see what the specs and prices are.:D

I'm sure a ton of Jeep and other off-road forums are talking about it as well.

I'll keep my eye on these for the next few years. The pricing seems high if you want the goodies. The good thing is that the resale value surely won't match ours, so used ones will probably be cheap in a few years.
