Anyone get a code P0416 from playing in water?

Sorry in advanced that this is long but it may help some of you while wheeling.

EDIT: Adding cliff notes version- went through a small stream, 2 days later got a check engine light and flashing terrain-assist light and the vehicle wouldn't go over 2k rpm. Apparently I fried a sensor. This happen to anyone else?

--Long Version--

Over the weekend I was playing around in a spot I've been to before with my 2019 4R . There's a small stream that I crossed that was deep enough to cover my predator steps, but not any higher (picture below for reference). The water was higher than when previously crossed so I was going slow, feeling for the big rock hidden in the middle. I crossed this stream twice and was driving around for about an hour after that before heading home without issue.

That was on a Saturday night. Sunday I didn't drive the vehicle at all. I was installing my ARB air compressor and may have turned the vehicle on, but did not notice any unusual dash lights.

Monday, comes and I (very conveniently) had my first (5,000 mile) scheduled service at my dealership. When I turned the vehicle on, I noticed the check engine light was on and the multi-terrain assist light was flashing (green outline of a 4R on uneven terrain). I looked in the owners manual for what this light means when flashing. The manual stated to bring the vehicle to the dealership immediately (now you see why my service was quite conveniently timed). On the way to the dealership, the vehicle would not go over 2k RPM... Obviously something wrong.

Anyway, I was told that the issue was a secondary air injection system - switching valve B. This is obd-II code P0416. The guy at the dealership told me that the problem was caused by water getting in some areas where it shouldn't and this caused the issue.

What I don't understand is how this happened now and has not happened before (months ago) when I was plowing through deep mud puddles sending water and mud everywhere including soaking my engine bay in water and mud??

Anyone have this happen to them?? If not, be careful in water!

Not this specific issue, but playing in water always comes with risks. Water/mud can get into wiring harness connections or components, where it can take a couple of days for corrosion to develop, which can lead to issues like this. If you're going to play in water, it's a good idea to take some dielectric grease, and coat all the connections under the hood to help protect them.

At least it wasn't the worst case scenario of a hydro locked engine though!

Yes, I figured out that it can be erased with my cheap OBD2 scanner but eventually it will pop up again every few weeks, so I'm looking to get rid of this code for good.

 

When the code shows, does the vehicle preform normally? Or do you also have the issue of not being able to go above 2000 rpm?

 

The check engine and trac off light turns on, so it operates in limp mode, limiting to 60mph and 2000rpm.
