    Hi,
I have 2001 4Runner and was wondering what shocks to replace the originals with? This is not a 4x4, so, it doesn't have over-sized tires and the like; it's a city dweller. I'm looking to soften the ride a little. I don't want mushy, but I don't want it as firm as it is. Any suggestions for a quality reasonably priced set up would be welcomed. Thanks!

The oem shocks feel to firm for you? That’s gotta be a first.

Well, I just bought it, so maybe they're old/worn out. When I run over bumps, RR tracks, man hole covers, etc. it's a pretty stiff jolt which doesn't feel like it gives much. As I stated, it's a city dweller, and I prefer it to give a little when I hit normal bumps and whatnot in the road. I prefer a softer ride. Thanks for the input.

Sounds like the shocks are shot. Lots of choices out there. Most like a firmer and more controlled ride. Good luck in your search.

If your not planing on lifting it take a look at Bilstien 4600 shocks. I had them on my 02 before i lifted it , and really liked them.

Thanks, I'll look into them. I've heard good things about that brand.

I put new stockers on mine because I like the softer ride. If you want soft, I don't think you'll find anything softer than what came with it.

Third gens are built like a TRUCK. So it's going to be a bit rough...but shouldn't be harsh.
