Mud flap delete

I have a couple questions for everyone. 1) What’s their experience, good or bad with removing your flaps?

2) Besides buying the deletes from Revtek, Has anyone cut their flaps to make it look like you took them off? Because removing them completely, allows all that mud get stuck in that corner.

 

Awesome, thanks! I’m thinking about buying some tough hard vinyl and cutting them myself. I saw the Revtek covers but wanted to save $$

it looks like if I just take them off and cut it down might be the option I’m leaning on, wanted to see if anyone actually did that with good results!

 

Also forgot to mention my dog loves them! Lol

 

I’ve seen folks outline the flaps with a marker. Then simply remove and cut them down with a strong pair of scissors or utility knife. Once installed, it will sit flush and contour the fenders.

 

I’m usually a DIY kind of person, but I did the revteks this round. I wanted the option for going back if I ever find some sort of compelling reason to do so.

The only real major mudflap pro (rears anyways); is if your lifted and have aggressive tires that are prone to picking up rocks, they can help prevent flinging rocks at the people driving behind you.

 

Hi Greyrunner808, here's a couple of photos of what I did after installing my Victory 4X4 Strike bumper. In Victory's installation videos, Darryl just removes the rear flaps and installs the bumper, but its pretty buttoned up back there when its stock, and where I live in a snow belt it's an area of the car that will fill up and pack in with sand, gravel, salt and mud. So, I trimmed the flaps and made up a splash pan that fits inside the frame of the bumper made of 1/16" aluminum checker plate. On the exhaust bracket side, I cut a notch for the hanger. I happened to have a couple of pieces of scrap metal that worked, but these can be purchased in metal shop fairly inexpensively. Its easy to cut and work with. You can see at the back, I cut a big drain hole. The middle screw uses an OEM bracket for the old plastic bumper cover and i drilled one additional hole for a body screw to hold them on. I plan to remove them at least once a year to pressure wash that area, maybe more often if I've been on a muddy trail.
My front flaps are stock, but they're short and not in the way and do a good job of protecting the vehicle.

I don't like the look of mud flaps so I removed mine. I trimmed the rears and used black silicone to fill in the gap around the outside. Not perfect but good enough for me.

 

Hey Blue 4ever Runner, there’s no wrong way, it’s your vehicle, just do it! As long as it works for you, and I’m sure it looks great. The stock rear mud flaps in particular aren’t the best off road. First rule is to get rid of all the stuff that hangs down and flaps around before Mother Nature modifies it for you.

 

I trimmed the bottom section of the mudflaps since the extra bit looks like some weird engineering mishap.

 

I just did that too!

 

I also removed my running boards, I like that look better, although now my kids just gonna need help getting in! Lol

 

4 Runners look great without running boards, imho. I find they trap mud, snow and salt and I end up with that dirt on my pant legs getting in and out.

 

I love the clean look but would have destroyed my rocker panels several times already had it not been for my sliders.

 

Definitely, sliders are completely different.

 

Silly question. I can find lots of info on removing the rear flaps including the revtek delete kit. What's the deal with the front flaps? Are people just trimming those because there is no other option?

 

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Stock mud flaps work for me.

 

I smashed up the flaps on my old FJ Cruiser which is why I'm asking. I suppose it depends on where you take your 4Runner. I'd would prefer to not have them on there based on the FJ experience.

 

That's a good reason. Maybe consider OEM flaps that are trimmed a bit higher.

I would think OEM flaps would fit better than aftermarket.

 

The fronts just come off; they don’t leave big holes like rear ones do. You just simply remove them.

 

I pulled the front ones off for clearance issues, I left the rear ones on because I try to be nice and not hurl rocks into people’s windshields on the highway.

Has anyone installed the Revtek mudflap delete on a 20 or 21? Pretty sure they will fit but want to confirm.

Anyone know if the revtek kit fits a 22’? Unlikely it changes but wanted to check just in case.

 

Any kits for a front mudflap delete? Trying to avoid the tire rub of 285s.

 

It seems that if you remove the mudflap, but replace it with something else, there'd still be rubbing...
