5100s and lift

    That will accomplish what you want. Most, however, get Bilstein (or Eibach ;)) front AND rear for the best upgrade in the total ride quality, if you're going to do new struts anyway...

    Ah makes sense. I'll definitely consider doing all 4 and only setting .85 in the front. Thanks!

    For anyone that may know, would installing the Bilsteins screw with the TSS on the newer 4runners? I assume not, but thought I should ask.

    You shouldn't have any problems with that.

    Plenty of guys with Tacoma's have been lifting their trucks with TSS for years.

    You should have take still, although minimal. Why don’t you ditch the spacer, and get a 1” lift coil for the rear? The rear is about 2” taller than the front. So you can go 1.75” front and 1” rear. Getting a coil will be ride a lot better than a spacer.

    Man, that pic on page 2 of 5100 at 1.75 and a one inch rear spacer looks perfect. Rather do 1" springs though, Dobinsons " 1" " seems more like 1.5-2... What are some other good options for one inch rear springs that are actually 1" or close-ish to it?

    Realized I only have an inch or so of clearance at work especially after the upgrade to 275. May wait on springs and just do the 5100 all around set at .85 front.

    I have 285's on the stock rear height. I don't rub, but I also don't flex it out rock crawling. I like faster desert roads and this set-up has worked great for me so far.

    I just pulled the trigger on 5100 with aftermarket springs. It looks like in the photo you pulled the trigger on UCA's. Did you have alignment issues, or just cover the spread and get them anyway?


    Edit: I've been reading a shit ton of threads on the 5100 lift heights and don't see any of y'all running the full 2.5 even with UCA's. What seems to be the consensus on this? Looks? Not wanting UCA's

    I ordered a complete setup from Wheelers with their 620lb front springs and a T13 Rear. I'm going to add sliders and maybe skids down the line.

    I'm a bit concerned that it's listed at 2.5" of lift up front. I'd like to avoid UCA's and am hoping that it translates to a real world lift of 2.0". I have an 04' Tacoma but the 4Runner is a completely different world. UCA's aren't off the table, I just don't want to have to drop the coin.

    Should I consider changing the order and use the factory coils? This is the wife's ride but it will be the one we now use to get to CO and UT with the whole family. So I want the additional clearance.

    Bigger A/T LT Tires, Slight Lift, Sliders, Rack, Lights, etc.
    You'll probably be OK with those coils unless you're a caster snob and require 4* or more. I'd think it'll drive fine. Would UCA's make a noticeable difference? At that point, maybe. So there you go.. based your decision off of that lol. GL!

    Not a caster snob at all. I'm trying my hardest not to go full chooch on the wife's ride (as we haven't made the first payment). I did that with my 04" Taco and ended up with a full custom Fox setup.

    I'm in a state of analysis paralysis....I hate this part.

    I'll also be content to run the factory Dunlops until they go out, so I'm worried about the look being really odd. I don't really have anyone to impress but it will bother me if it looks funky.

    Installed lift yesterday and today. Alignment is fine at just over 2* caster. Can’t tell a difference from stock.

    After a short drive it seems to have settled right at 2” at all four corners.

    That brake dive is GONE and brakes feel much less grabby.

    Is there really much difference between setting the 5100s at .85 with stock springs, vs a 1” cornfed spacer in the front? This is for a 21 OR premium with KDSS. As far as wear on the suspension goes. Seems like a waste to replace the front shocks so soon, all I want is around 1” lift up front, I have no problem with the way it drives, the KDSS handles the nose dive pretty well. Budget is not an issue, it just seems like preloading the shocks vs a small spacer is not much different. Plan to rethink the suspension in a few years, but for now would rather spend that paper on other things.

    My Tacoma has 5100s all around, set to 0 with OME springs, and it is a huge improvement, so I understand the benefits, but that was to a 100k mile 10yr old truck.

    Thoughts?

    The difference is that Bilstein 5100's are designed with a longer shaft to accommodate the lift. The stock shocks are not. So by adding a 1" spacer to the stock shocks, you can bottom them out faster which can blow them out.

    That's not to say you can't do it. Plenty of people do. They'll be fine for a while with highway driving and have a much shorter lifespan offroading.

    There's no reason you couldn't try the Cornfed spacers and save the $$ now. I almost did, but figured I'd end up with new shocks anyway, so I went the route of getting Eibachs to upgrade my suspension. I run the fronts at .85.

    The biggest advantage I saw of doing that was I could upgrade to the full Eibach Pro Truck Stage 1 suspension by adding the springs at any time, should I so desire.

    Good thoughts! Thank you! That’s kinda what I’m thinking, it’s worth a shot, it seems like a lot of people lifts involve some sort of spacer, even the Bilstein setup I have in my Tacoma used a 1/4” top plate spacer to fix the driver side lean, and I never had any issues there. This 4r is just a significantly higher end vehicle.

    So you just went with the Eibach shocks in just the front? Stock in the rear? Or all around? I’ll have to look into those. I’ve heard they are closer in feel to the stock ride than the Bilsteins, and my wife (and I) like how it rides.

    I did all four corners. It didn't make sense to upgrade the front and not the rear. The rear shocks are simple to replace.

    My wife continues to tell me how good the ride is.
