Brake problem getting worse

I have to push the pedal really far down before the truck starts to stop. I drove a brand new one ( mine is a 2019) and it was about the same way. Its like an older car that is low on brake fluid or the pads are worn out. I have 6k miles on mine . The dealer says its normal. What do you guys think?

My Corolla was the same way when I bought it. Took me a while to get used to it.

Yes but the brakes are much worse.

 

maybe take it to another shop for a second opinion? the people on this board are great but it's hard to diagnose this kind of thing online.

 

I would definitely take it to another shop.

 

What kind of brake fluid does it have? Dot 5 is a pain to bleed correctly, but once it's done, it's good.

 

What did you drive before 4Runner? You will have more pedal travel in this vehicle vs smaller especially sports cars.

 

Thats a load of bs.

Mine I tap and I can feel the brakes. Of course it does feel/stop like to sports car. But more pedal travel not true.

 

How do you really feel about this, Dillusion? Wawuzit, my pedal travels a bit as well (2013 Trail) and it stops super well but it took some getting used to it’s non linear power and travel. I drove cars where brake pedal had no slack where 4 Runner is like “are you sure you want to slow down now?” Double stage trigger with a lot of slack, I swear I’m used to it now. Overall these are superb brakes which saved my butt more than once.

 

My 4R has no "slack" "play" whatever you want to call it.

It used to have that annoying ass squeak when pushing the pedal but I couldn't tell you when that went away.

 

Once the brakes start stopping the vehicle the brakes are great. I love the 4runner but the brakes are a problem. If I'm at a stop light I have to push the pedal pretty far to just keep the truck from rolling. To explain it the best I can , it feels like a older vehicle with low fluid or worn out brake shoes. If I really push the pedal the brakes are strong.

 

interesting thread...I bought my first 4Runner last June. My own vehicles for the last 25 years were a Blazer and Trailblazer...I don't notice any difference in feel or brake travel with the 4Runner. Application relative to what my foot commands have always felt like what I'm used to on the older SUV's. Now, mine is an SR5...maybe the trail version is different (?)
