So one of the first small mods i've been wanting to do since getting my 2018 SR5 is investing in a quality phone mount. I know RAM mounts are a popular choice but trying to avoid any drilling if possible. Was wondering if anyone here has any advice or experiences with magnetic mounts? Also not a big fan of the vent clip mounts. Thanks in advance!

Nothing fancy but I love this mount. It's magnetic, but unlike most magnetic mounts that have the magnet affixed to the dash and just a small piece of metal on your phone, this system affixes the magnet to your phone itself. This is extremely useful because now your phone will stick to anything metal! For example working in your engine compartment or underneath the vehicle, you can slap the phone anywhere and it'll stay put.
The magnet is strong enough your phone will be secure even bumping around off-road.

It may not be the style you're looking for but I've enjoyed it so thought it share!

I've actually seen those too and was thinking about trying those out. I just like a simple place and go mount and those seem to fit nicely

Yea definitely. And its cheap enough that if it's not what you're looking for, no real harm done. Just be careful if you're taking the dash part off your dash..use floss it something to carefully remove it so as not to damage your dash (never happened to me but I've heard of it happening).

I went with a Scosche Magic Mount and really like it. Clean install and it's in a great spot, IMO. It adheres with some really strong 3M double sided tape. I've had it about a year and it hasn't moved a bit. Putting the magnet high up on the phone will still allow you to use a Qi charger, if that's something you use at home.

Was that just the standard dash mount?

I use something similar to this..

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQB9VQR/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_8tOKEb1YV9M26

I attached it to the windshield tight to the A pillar and set it up so the phone is in line with the A pillar from my point of view. No drilling, no blocking the vents, no sticky goo on the dash, and you lose very little visibility.

Dash mount, but I got the Pro because........Pro. Honestly, I don't know the difference when compared to the standard one, but I'm happy with the Pro.

    https://smile.amazon.com/MPDB-Magic...id=1586660834&sprefix=scorched,aps,267&sr=8-8

Edit: supposedly the magnets on the Pro are 30% stronger.

I usually turn the damn thing off and toss it in the door pocket. But, if I absolutely have to have it on for some reason, I use a ProClip mount.

That A pillar mount looks sweet! I like the no-drilling concept. Thanks for the link.

I was worried about drilling too, but the RAM mount is great. I would recommend

Are you not concerned with the airbag at the A-pillar going off and pushing your phone into your face?

    That's what I was worried about, but maybe it's a non-issue.

Hmmmm, I hadn't thought about that. Good point!

After looking at pricing, I'm going to stick with my windshield mount cheapie anyway.

It might not even get thrown that way in the event of a crash. I have no idea.

But in the event that it does, I'd hate to have that thing flying at my face at 100mph.

I love the Hondo Garage setup in my Tacoma. The billet micro-adjustable phone holder is the best of many that I've tried. Unfortunately their cool Tacoma Unholy vent mount doesn't have an equivalent for the 4Runner.
For our new 4Runner rig I bought the Hondo Garage iPhone holder and the Proclip mount to span the vent, and 2-1" balls and the articulated swivel thingy from Ram. Assembled it should be pretty great. Most of the parts came in today.

I like my ICS Fab phone mount/Tablet mount, etc... Yeah you gotta drill but it's a solid setup with Ram mounts and it doesn't block my AMD aka Accessory Meter Display either!

I know I just end up sucking up a cup holder but i really do like my Weather Tech Cup Fone. Definitely on the expensive side ($60) but easy to drop the phone in and pull it out....

These are great. Unfortunately I'm generally in overflow mode on cup holders. Water thermos, coffee for me & wife, eyeglass cases, now hand sanitizer etc etc.
Just put my hybrid Hondo Garage/RAM/Proclip phone holder together for the new 4Runner.

I have been happy with Ram Mounts for phone and iPad mini. iPad is using a pro clip base with a ram mount ball attached.

I'm a big fan of the RAM Mount X-grip. I have used them for years in my vehicles and on my Dual Sport motorcycles also.

For my vehicles I use the suction cup on the windshield.
On my bikes, I used the handlebar mount and the rubber tether and never lost a phone while on the road or off road.

@Starr Do you have links to the parts you bought to set your mount up? Any more pics of it setup? Does your phone bounce around when off-road?

I had the Hondo Garage setup on my Tacoma, twas solid. Sucks they don't make it for the 4runner. Trying to find an option that does require me to drill into the dash
