Carpet has been dry and I don't notice any coolant odors. Drove my mom around for a couple hours yesterday and she didn't notice anything either.

Goes through coolant like an Irishman and guinness on a friday night

Been awhile since I've looked but it doesn't matter I think. But I think how you have the inlet/outlet positioned matters. Like if you had them positioned vertically the one up top should be the inlet. (Again, its been awhile so I may have these backwards)

you should let gravity do the work. fluid in should be at the top of the cooler, fluid out at the bottom

 

check the drivers side bottom corner. could be seeping through and evaporating before ever getting to the ground. i was losing coolant from there and it had to get REALLY bad before i ever got a puddle

 

im more of a "travel allowance" over stuffage guy.

 

Am I pretty much just checking the heater core area? Forgot to add this is the LS430, so a 3UZ. Recently did the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, new radiator, and that's all I remember.

 

oooo i was under the impression this was the 4runner. either way though, id look all over the radiator for dried coolant that could have seeped through, i have no idea what could be eating it that fast though

 

Does your Lexus have a trans cooler that goes through the radiator for cooling? I'd check your trans fluid and see how she looks. Or the oil

 

Alright I'll take a look. I'll probably have to hose everything off though since there's old dried up coolant all over the place. Either way, the 2UZ and 3UZ are essentially the same motor.

Yea it uses the radiator. The inlet/outlet is on the bottom of the radiator. The trans fluid...all original Toyota WS I'm assuming (170k). Blacker than coal and smells like burning paper. Was actually going to do a drain and fill tomorrow on that.

 

When do you check it? At operating temp? Thinking if you check it cool it might suck it in or push out the resi

 

The coolant? Today I checked it before I started up the car then after I arrived in SF. Poured a bit of maybe 70/30 distilled/antifreeze (me being cheap) in to the reservoir before I left home and checked when I arrived in my parking garage. Radiator slightly overflowed into the reservoir to maybe 1/4" above the full line

Now if you're talking about trans fluid, I only saw that when it dripped out the cooling lines when I swapped radiators

 

anyone used anything other thank stock replacement rotors?

 

I have been using autoZone. They seem to hold up pretty well. I think most will if you maintain your pads properly.

 

toyota cause oem and toyota is strong and never fail....

 

I used Advanced house brand along with some tow/fleet pads.

My wheels are never clean anymore. Won't make that mistake again. Upgrading to Tundra brakes next time anyways.

 

probably going to do the carquest replacements. figured its probably not worth it to do any of the EBC slotted and dimpled rotors

 

Tried the EBC green pads on my Tacoma, wheels were black for days........so much brake dust I removed them and went back to Toyota OEM brake pads. Did'nt notice a difference in stopping either.

 

I've heard that about ebc's. I've used them on my atv over oem pads and it was a massive difference

 

Flushed out my power steering fluid. It was pretty damn gross. The noise i had, went away.

 

well new rear brakes helped pedal feel a little bit. still need stainless lines so i can get some stoppage before getting halfway to the floor

 

my rear brakes are the bane of my existence. Between rusted/seized bell cranks and wheel cylinders that have one foot in the grave, I curse toyota for their lack of innovation when it came to using disc brakes on the rear axles of these trucks.

i digress. I'll be doing a rear axle/brake overhaul here shortly.

 

i have a metallic grinding noise but goes away when the brakes are pressed. I need to see which it is, front or rear. Probably fronts.

 

You used to roll around SF in a lowered car right Sam? How low did you go before it got annoying?

 

was fine actually, only part that sucked was that it was a 5 speed.

 

Good to hear. Ordered a set of fortune auto coilovers on swift springs. I don't plan to go super low, hopefully. Too many things would piss me off on my drive home, and scraping my bumper on everything would just further piss me off. Just want to firm up the yawn inducing soft Lexus ride slightly.
