New method wheels on KO2s... need tpms??

Just had these tires all mounted up.. do I absolutely need a tpms? Workaround?

 

You don't need TPMS! Just check your tires regularly.

No alarm or dash lights will go off without them?

 

Yea you'll get a dashboard light looking like a ! with a Triangle. However, many people buy a PVC pipe, put the TPMS in there, glue caps on it, then drill a hole in it, tap threads for a shrader valve and pressurize the pipe to 30 PSI, toss it in the back of the truck so the RF sensors can read it, and the truck thinks the tires are good.

In the end it's a lot of trouble for not just moving over the TPMS, but for people who don't want TPMS, it's a workaround to keep the dash lights off. The 20's added the PSI rating on the tires, so I love having them.

So does the dash light go off the moment it doesn't have the sensor in place/ new wheels go on?

 

Unfortunately the light will not go off until the TPMS read above 28PSI i think.

However, the tube method will work fine and the light will then go off. People do it all the time on Tacomaworld

where is the sensor that reads the tpms in the tires?

 

Good question, I believe there's one near each tire in the wheel wells, but not sure.

When I saw someone do this, however, pretty sure they put all 4 TPMS in a single PVC tube so no telling how it works

 

Curious, but why don’t/can’t the TPMS be installed with those wheels?? Is it because of the beadlocks?
