Mahalo for the welcome. Kinda new to this kind of forum thing. Trying to learn how to navigate and use the tools for this site. Hoping you all are safe and doing well. As for vacationing here, now is definitely not a good time to do so. Everything is closed. They actually trying a curfew this weekend, which in my opinion should have happened a while ago. Even the whale watching and all tourist tours are shut down. Like everywhere else, it's very different here now compared to a few months ago. Enough of that. I love seeing the pics of everyone's 4Runners.

Gonna install some HDX drop steps soon. It's supposed to be here sometime this week. That'll give me something to do next weekend while I isolate myself at home. Running out of things to do around the house. Everything is fixed, cleaned etc!!!

Welcome Joemama. Not too much aloha for tourists these days here in Hana district. Plenty fools and campers sneaking around the National Guard roadblocks.

The punishment for these people who blatantly disregard the safety of others should be enforced with zero tolerance. Most of us are following the guidelines and doing our part hoping that this ordeal will return to some kind of normalcy. The selfishness of these people. We have limited resources here. We only have 1 hospital and that place has been compromised. The people of Hana will eventually deal with these people

I agree with you. It saddens me to to see folks disrespecting what the community is trying to do. Fortunately they are a small minority.
We've been making a grocery run once every 10-12 days, otherwise our gate stays closed and we stay alone on our land doing chores and repairs and working the garden. We appreciate that this is the most beautiful and kindest place on our planet, even on a bad day, and the rain and sun and aina provide us most of what we need.
On a positive note, there was Covid-19 testing last Saturday in Hana, over 500 local residents participated, and the results came in and there were zero positives. There had been some cases earlier. So we pretty much know that if any new cases show up, it comes from outside. National Guard folks are staffing checkpoints at both entry points to East Maui, and stopping anyone coming in without a resident pass. This was at the request of our community. Yes, there are a few folks acting like fools, but for the most part the people of Hana & Kaenae & Kaupo & Kipahulu are working together and dealing with this terrible thing in a very effective manner. Stay safe, & Aloha.

    Welcome.

My daughter will be getting married at the end of June and already has a honeymoon all mapped out for Hawaii. They are trying to decide now if they should still plan to go or cancel and go next year. Good thing they purchased trip insurance.

They got trip insurance so I'd hold out til last minute. As long as the 14 day quarantine goes away.

I would wait also. Especially since they probably spent time saving their money for their honeymoon. They should be able to enjoy our beautiful State without the quarantine and rules that are in place at this time. Did any of you read about or see what that couple who came to Honolulu did and the police chasing them down? They got here and checked into a hotel. The hotel manager called the police and told them that these people were not quarantining themselves. The police found them, warned them. They then checked into another hotel and tried to do the same thing. They got caught again and were arrested this time. I dont like being told to stay indoors either, but i do so with the hope that the more we follow these rules, the quicker this will be over to some extent. These people knew that Hawaii had these rules in place and still decided to come. Then when they get here, they act like idiots. I think I the fines should be stiffer and the charge should be a felony. And it's not just tourists. Some locals are also being selfish and acting like idiots. With another passing day, I just hope that it's a day closer to some kind of normalcy. Malama pono.

Agree on all. There will be lots of times in future when guests will be welcomed and can enjoy these most wonderful islands and communities.
