I've run about 2/3 of it. If you're hoping for hard-core off-roading, then no. There's only a few spots that have required 4WD and those were just crummy roads that got mushy during the spring thaw.

However, if you think you would enjoy a scenic drive through Wisconsin, then it might be worth the ride. It's really just a series of back-roads and 2 lane highways that stretch through the state. There's good scenery, and cool spots to stop and take pictures.

Here's a picture from a group run with a bunch of guys from Tacomaworld..

    20190714_090121.jpg

If you decide to run it, there is a road just south of Clam Lake that should be avoided if you care about your truck's paint. It is road FR-327, and I'll give you the exact location if you'd like. I ran that section last May. The 4runner went in brand new, and came out with literally hundreds of scratches. Here's a picture from afterward. Aside from the mud, you can see one of the bigger scratches arching from wheel-well to wheel-well.

    20190515_155639.jpg

I had entered on the north end of the road, and it was a narrow 2-track with basically nowhere to turn around. Of course, the really bad section was at the South end, and I knew that an intersection was coming, so I just kept going. The good thing was that I was completely over worrying about trail-rash after that day.

If you decide to run the trail, I highly recommend working in a stop at Potosi brewery, near the south end of the trail. They have good beer, good food, and a beer museum. Of course, this is assuming that restaurants are back open by the time you get out there.

Is this just a bike trail you're referring to? Or, are there some good dirt roads there?

They are known for single track mountain bike trails, I know they have camping as well. I don’t think there’s off roading though.

That sounds about right. I'm just always interested in finding new places to explore in WI. I've camped in the Kettle Moraine before, but I don't recall which campgrounds.

Do you think you'll put the T.W.A.T on the to do list?

It looks like I'll be ordering tires very soon!

I'm still trying to figure out what size and brand. The front runner right now is the new Toyo Open Country AT3 in a 285/70/17 or possibly a 285/75/17. I also like the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZP3. Aside from looks, the Toyos seem to have the most advantages.

I've been very happy with my BFG KO2's, but it seems like they have been surpassed by the competition. The AT market is so competitive. Manufacturers are constantly trying to out-do each other and themselves. I'm curious if a KO3 is in the works...

I suppose I'll have to modify the mud-flaps or switch to aftermarket ones. BMC is done already. I'm also thinking about a hatch ladder. It never ends...

I’ve been hearing good things lately about Kenda Klever R/T tires, I haven’t don’t much research on them but The name seems to have been popping up as of late.

I’d love to build a 4Runner but I don’t think I’d give up the tundra for one. I just need more space so I can have them all lol

    Tires are ordered!

I went with the Toyo AT3's in 285/70/17. They seemed like a better overall choice than the Mickeys. I can't wait to get them!!!

    I also ordered a Bajarack roof ladder!:bananadance:

Yes. It looks really nice as well. I just thought the Bajarack ladder would look better without a bumper, and I'm scared to drill holes in the hatch.

I got the tires mounted. So far I like them. I'm going to be driving a bunch tomorrow and Sunday so I'll have a better feel for them by Sunday night. The shop put them at 35 PSI, but I'm going to lower them a bit.

I have to get used to not having white letters. It's weird.

    Thanks!

I'm pretty happy with the size. Normal acceleration is fine, but you notice the extra weight when you try to accelerate fast. And, the speedometer is now accurate. It will be interesting to see how (much) this affects my fuel economy.

Did you try Sprint booster or pedal commander. It's awesome with stock size and I hear it makes up for the heavy tires

The only thing that would compensate for larger/heavier tires would be re-gearing or adding power. Neither of those devices add power, so it wouldn't help.

I'm satisfied with the acceleration so I'm going to leave it alone.

Funny you should mention that. I noticed a bit of rubbing yesterday in tight turns.

Sooo... I ordered some Rokblokz high clearance Mud flaps. They are actually cut away by the body mount to allow maximum clearance.

    https://rokblokz.com/

Between those and the ladder, I have some entertainment lined up for next weekend. :)
