Had to change the left upper idler pulley, the last one got mud in it and somehow got itself stuck at a vertical 45 degree angle and shredded my belt on the block. If i find out how to post pictures I'll add a few. But after changing said pulley, I got the new belt on, drove it to the Wawa, put air in my tires, came back and saw the radiator side of my engine bay was covered in oil. I had my friend come over the next day so he could help me look for the oil leak, and we found out its leaking from directly behind the new pulley. I don't think i cracked the timing cover torquing it down, but at the same time I'm completely stumped. On the old pulley, there was a little O-Ring with a metal circle that was just completely ate and heat damaged from when the pulley went vertical, but I don't know where that would've went because on the assembly the only hole is for the bolt, while this was the size of the bearing. I'm completely stumped, and on the verge of selling it because i need a vehicle, but at the same time I don't want to sell it, so hopefully y'all can help me diagnose whats wrong with it!

Welcome! Sorry to hear about the pulley and oil leak.

Which model 4Runnern do you have? V6 or V8 engine? Also if you can post photos, this will help people understand what you are working with.

Is it possible that when the pulley failed, the belt torqued the pulley and cracked the timing cover?

It is a 4.0 V6 and I do not know how to post a picture, but when I find out I will. But for an explanation all the pulleys were sitting flat pointed right towards the sky except this one which was aiming at my passenger seat

Thanks. Still hard to imagine what you are working with.

What does "aiming at my passenger seat" mean? What does "pointed right towards the sky" mean?

If the pulley axes are anything other than parallel with the crankshaft, something serious is wrong.

Please keep posting photos that clearly show the situation you are dealing with. This gives people a chance to help. Are you still looking for suggestions?
