Newbee with a 19 ORP looking for some guidance on tires

Hi all, New kid from Phila here with a 2019 ORP & I'm stuck like chuck. 1st I'd like to say I've been a fan of this forum for quite some time, way b4 buying my 2019 4R ORP, funny how I didn't own a 4R but always loved reading about them & looking at pics and reading all the stories posts forums and buy/sell/trade. I really hope to be a life long member.

I know this topic has probably been thrown around many times so please forgive me if I sound like a broken 45. I'd love to hear any and all opinions especially those with personal knowledge on A/T tires used on snow and wet traction/handling. I've been bouncing around with these in mind, Falken Wildpeak A/T3W, General Grabbers, Toyo Open Country AT II and Hankook Dynapro AT2. I don't want pure winter/snow tires actually I won't get rid of my OEM tires as they only have 16K miles. I will prob use them from December thru May them garage them. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated.

The wildpeaks are very popular right now. Lots of good feedback.

I have a buddy who really likes Hankooks. Those dynapros look pretty good for on-road/snow.

Just put the falkens on my wife’s 4Runner. She loves them so far but we have not had any snow yet but a bunch of rain. They were great, no issues.

I run Nitto Terra Grappler G2s AT tires (275/55 R20) on my 4R all year round. Love the look and performance of these tires in all conditions. I haven't been off roading much but they performed well. These are also pretty quiet on the road for A/T tires. Good luck with your decision.

 

I would head over to tire rack and look at reviews, great info on that site.

 

My Nitto Ridge Grapplers have been through snow and tons of rain. Very happy with them. I'm running them in the stock 265/70/17 size.

 

I've been running wildpeaks for the summer and they are fine. Chicago winter will be a make or break it for me. Many have come back and said they are great on cold wet roads. Will see, best part they are cheap dollar wise

They don't get much love on these sites, and I don't see it on your list of possibilities, but don't discount the Firestone Destination AT. They have a new AT that just came out within the last 6 months or so, and we just got a set for my wife's 4Runner. They're pretty great tires and they look decently aggressive as well. I've used the original ATs for several years on 4Rs and Tacos and I'm super happy with them. Not the greatest mud tires, but awesome on gravel roads, dirt roads, in snow, in rain, that sort of thing.

Personally I don't think any of the AT offerings are aggressive enough to justify taking on and off at different times, I would just mount a set and leave them on all the time.

Since you are in Pennsylvania, check out the various Pennsylvania state game lands, and the fire roads running through there. Lots of fun dirt roads to explore. Best done not during hunting seasons.

 

Big fan of my Firestone Destination A/T's as well. Haven't found any weaknesses in them yet. If you want to go up in tire size, they offer one of the lightest tires on the market too.
