Hello fellow members. Just wanted to ask if anyone has powder coat their TDR off-road rims an if so can you post pix on how they came out? I’m thinking about doing it for mine.

Powder coat if done correctly looks great and is quite durable. Unlike death and taxes it won't last forever. Getting beat up in the dirt will cause chips and dings and may call for touch up. Some of the newer coatings such as ceracoat might be an option. I have no experience with that product except on firearms.

    Tag I'm it.

I bought some of the original trail wheels that were the polished aluminium. The two tone ones with the black on them I would imagine would be a little more expensive to have done since they would have to be blasted....but I'm really happy with how mine turned out. Granted I have no plans to do any mountain climbing with them but they look great in the parking lot at Target.

Beautiful powder job!! I owned a powder shop for some years and we did everything from horse trailers to snowmobiles to high pressure gas pipe. Technology keeps moving on maybe the powder world will keep with the advancements-I hope so/ It is a good product.

Thank you! The dealer actually messed one of these up during install by having their machine set to 7" and not 7.5". One of those pics shows the scrape on it. They paid to have it repaired, but to my surprise the place that did my powder coating was able to touch it up without having to blast the whole thing back down to it's unfinished state. So perhaps the technology finally did catch up. Of course it was just a minor scrape....but it was such a bummer to get the call and the first word out of their mouth was.....you're gonna kill us. I was bummed not mad...but a couple weeks later all was good. No regrets because at the end of the day I got what I wanted.

Thx fellas for the information and the pix’s. I will definitely ask about the ceracoat. I will put a picture up with the final results.

Sweet looks good.....just make sure you tell them multiple times they are 7.5" wide when you take them to get mounted. Make them repeat it back to you then have them write it 20 times on a dry erase board.

I like it. What's the name of the color you went with?

I would eventually like to do mine, but I would want them to keep the black interior.....if they can do that.

I bet that stock black isn't powder coated. I'm not 100% sure but I wouldn't think paint would hold up in an oven. You can get two tone powder coating though.

Aroyalsfan why is telling them about 7.5 wide important for a novice like me. Nimby I will ask the shop what color name they use.

I’m surprised you guys don’t powder coat other parts under the hood? It’s really fun, just need an oven that you don’t cook in. The powder statically adheres to the charged part. The kits are cheap..

Just to make sure there are no goofs. The tech didn't bother to check on mine when swapping out the SR5 wheels for the trail wheels. Left the machine set to 7". Scraped up my fresh powder coat job. Big hassle to get it repaired.

I will make sure to let them know. I am curious to see what can be powder coated under the hood? Where do I find the black lug nuts any ideas.

Anything that withstands 400 degrees for twenty minutes. Bolts/nuts, aluminum, suspension parts. Very durable it shouldn’t chip if done right. The way the polyurethane bonds to the part is amazing...

I paid a premium price on Wheeler's website and don't regret it. You can find them way cheaper....but that's up to you.

I had them posted on the other lug nut page....but I had to remove myself from that thread as my head nearly exploded. So I deleted all my comments...

Here's what I have on mine. I elected to go with 20 lugs and a set of 4 locking lugs. Probably didn't really need to go with the locking lugs, but I was still on my newb spending spree adding all my costume jewelry mods at the time and didn't really care.

    Here is mine from Wheelers
    IMG_20200214_105836566.jpg

These will be used for the badass 2010-13 trail wheels I bought off a member here after I get them powder coated. Might be a long time cuz I'm gonna do it when I need new tires. These KO2's last

I'm surprised about the color. They looked pewter gray in the photo to me, not black.

I guess it's the finish and the lighting that makes them look lighter in color.

That or I just be trippin'. :der:
