Hello fellow forum members. My first post. This is health related so forgive me if I missed previous threads.

My 2018 SR5 has and has had a high frequency vibration in the steering wheel and throughout the entire vehicle since I bought it. Toyota first refused to acknowledge it, then acknowledged it but said "they are all like that", then the third time they said "we dont feel anything", then the 4th time they said "its characteristic of that vehicle". All the while refusing to use their NVH Pico Scope which analyzes vibrations. Finally after about 6 months into my Lemon Law claim, they agreed to use their Pico Scope. It has been approx. 8 months now and they refuse to release the results of the Pico Scope diagnostics. Way way more to this story but lets see where this goes as far as forum response. Thank you.

The glaring question is if ride quality and comfort are the top priorities, why buy a decade old body on frame truck chassis to begin with?

    Welcome!

When you say "Toyota first refused"....
-do you mean Corporate Toyota or your dealer?
-If it was your dealer, ever thought about trying another dealer?
-Also have you contacted corporate and opened a case file about this?
-Finally, are you saying that the 4Runner caused your carpel tunnel?

I read about runners that vibrate due to bad tires. 1st one I test drove had it. Salesman said it was the road. Test drove another on same road and it was fine. Bought the one that wasn't shaking

Thank you all for replying/reading. My first FORUM ever, not just first Toyota forum.

This vehicle has a transferred engine vibration. It is always there. The frequency increases as the rpm increases. The strength of the vibration increases when driven (under load) but vibration is always there whether in park, neutral or drive. The frequency and strength are in the "danger zone" of vibrations in general for power tools and the like. Driving this car is the same as holding your hand against the engine. Dealers refused to measure with Pico Scope NVH as did Toyota corporate. They finally did, to "prove to me there was nothing wrong" through the Lemon Law case, and they refuse to provide the results. They wouldnt even give me the results as the settlement itself!! I said "I will settle my claim for ZERO dollars, just give me the test results". THEY REFUSE.

2nd dealer admitted feeling vibration throughout my vehicle, especially in seat, was DIFFERENT than others he compared it to on the lot BUT at that time Toyota refused to do the NVH diagnosis.

Went to arbitration first. Qualified in NY because they had "4 opportunities to repair" the problem and didnt. Arbitration dismissed case because Toyota argued "they didnt have enough opportunities to fix it". So arbitration essentially re-wrote the statute for them.

Specialist documented carpel tunnel and this Toyota is the cause. After much research I question whether I am developing WBVS symptoms throughout my body, not just my hands and wrists. WBVS is Whole Body Vibration Syndrome, HAVS is Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome. It is no joke.

    Thanks again everybody.

engine creates the vibrations ?. could be a motor mount had a defect/install error.
I had this on two of my GM sedans but they were over 10 yrs old , the motor mount on driver side had cracks then the vibs..replaced it all is good after the replacement.
my 2016 runner only had a ticking sound on a cold start so I switched to Toyota engine oil SN plus 0-20wt and the engine is quiet .
I would have them check all the engine tranny mounts could be the issue.

Strange. My 07 4runner was smooth as silk. Something sounds off. If its that obvious, youd think the mechanics would see it/support it.

Can you get a video of it? Does it do it even at idle? Has it always done it? At all speeds? Braking? In park running? Are you all stock? Lifted?

First thoughts are universal joints, tires, brakes, motor mounts, driveshaft imbalance, timing?

Not to discount your medical issues but there’s a possibility it’s not the vehicle and you suffer from a hypersensitivity issue related to it.

Seen hypersensitivity before with RF and Bluetooth/WiFi/cell

Dont know the proper etiquette here. Am I supposed to "Reply to thread", or "Post Reply" or "Start a discussion"???

Right now I just want to say THANK YOU to all who replied! I will try to figure this out as I want to reply to each of you who offered advice and had questions. I actually spent about 10 minutes writing a reply but my computer wouldnt let me hit the button to post it as the bar on the screen covered the post it button and I wound up deleting it!! Will get back to you all soon. Thank you.

By the way. I found two other posts or threads here with same problem. One describes it as like holding a power tool for 8 hours and another describes it as like holding a power toothbrush. This is the transferred engine vibration that Toyota refuses to quantify or identify even though they say "its characteristic" of the vehicle and "they are all like that". If thats the case then they must know exactly what the problem is. They sold 139,000 4Runners in 2018. Thats a big recall......

I am investing in a NVH Vibration Software app for the smart phone. It promises to detect any possible vibration from engine to trans to road induced.

Is certified by Allison Transmissions. Cost is $400.00 plus the Kiwi3 to source the exact rpm. I will be purchasing very soon. And we will get to the bottom of this finally.

I would highly recommend that you steer clear of motorcycles. Lots of vibrations running through them.

I have a R1250GS that I rode from the Bay Area to AZ over the holidays and I could feel it in my hands, feet and uh...bits.

still wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I can’t say this is recallable. Hundreds of thousands of 4Runners on the road and how many instances of this have occurred?

Anything can cause vibrations through the vehicle. Wheels, tires, engine, AC compressor, driveline, etc. Is there a resonant vibration that’s inherit to each specific vehicle and by some chance it’s somehow affecting you more so than anyone else?

Welcome and hope you get feeling better. Any chance your arm that isn't holding wheel is resting at weird angle maybe putting pressure on a nerve causing tingling in arm/wrist/fingers ?

another cause could be injector issue. do you use TOP TIER gas ?
put techron fuel cleaner with engine deposit cleaner. see if it works.

Did you contact a lemon lawyer? If not, then you need to do that now. Follow their advice.

Their first recommendation will be for you to stop posting about this problem here and let them do their job.

Good luck and let us know what the lawyer says.

Hello Toy33. Thank you for the input. Thats not a bad thought but......this is a genuine transferred engine vibration. The frequency is identical to the engine. It can be traced throughout the vehicle. Engine running, doesnt have to be driven.
Funny you mention the "weird angle" etc......Due to the numbness from the carpel tunnel, I have to experiment with ways to hold the wheel differently than I have for the last 41 years. In doing so, I have now introduced secondary injuries in the knuckles. "Anti vibration" gloves dont do anything they sometimes make it feel worse as they kind of concentrate the vibrations in one area. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion!
