Every time I drive my 85 4 Runner I miss having a drink holder...has anyone gotten creative with their 1st gen for a cup holder. I was thinking of making a two drink holder and screwing it to the right side of the center hump next to the shifter...any thoughts are welcome

I remember these from when I was a kid. Apparently, they still make them.

I think you'll come up with something better, though. I'm going to watch this and see what others have come up with.

Thanks guys for the suggestions...I did have the door one and it bounced my drink out pretty quick...I'll take a closer look at the one Jeff suggested and let you know.

Definitely! That one @Dark Knight recommended looks pretty slick!

I remember the struggle back in the days of cars without any cup-holders. I can't remember how we lived without them!

There are a couple different models from bh3. I got the one that slides down in the useless cubby in front of the arm rest. It’s great with the exception of big Gatorade bottles and some travel mugs.

I like my old truck way better than the 4Runner around town. The 4Runner shines in other areas.

Screenshot_20200402-234539~2.jpg I think I got this at AutoZone for about $6. (Amazon price is double that)
I intend to get another one because there's enough room to fit two between my front seats, which will probably be more stable.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
If I'm alone, which is rare, I put my drink cup, a nice, insulated, 64 oz job, in the passenger seat and fasten the seat belt around it. Works great, as long as I don't go into a drift in a left turn, it stays put quite well.
Of course, if my lovely wife is with me as is usual, she tucks my cup down beside her, between her, the seat belt, and the arm rest. Yeah, she's not the biggest gal in the world.
So, I didn't spend a cent, other than the dollar for the cup (special promo from the Pilot gas stations), and it sits there very nicely for me

    Have fun all!

You guys are Great for responding to such a frivolous question...and yep...my priorities have reduced myself to worrying about my drink dumping over in my 4 Runner...I just headed to my workshop to make one...I'll put pictures of what I came up with. Be safe everyone and stay healthy!!! Amos

D2A8FD26-5C08-4835-8560-7F4E3B941AD3.jpg Maybe something like this. Hands free operation to not destract you from your driving. Holds two beverages and does not clutter up the console. Has gyroscopic leveler and is shock compensating to keep drinks put.

Granted this may be a stretch because i removed my center console and shift boots cause they were a bit worn out but i just took a 4" piece of steel tubing that i could fit a 12oz can in and welded it behind the shifter between the seats. Works great, ill snag a picture later. Seen a couple guys do the same thing but with a motorcycle chain.

I would love to buy the new 4 Runner..they look Awesome...but one of my Best Buds has a 2019 and when we park together everyone gravitates towards mine...especially when I pull the top off. All of the 4 Runners are Awesome in my opinion...the new ones look mean looking at their head light angle and the size...I had a 78 CJ-5 V-8 Jeep and my 85 4 Runner reminds of it...just tough...and by the way... my jeep couldn't touch my 4 Runner off road!!!

Hey Guys...I know this is a little crude but I cut two 3.5 holes in my console and bought some cheap boat cup holders and just siliconed them in...I don't think 3.5 inch will hold a big gulp...but yep...it fits a beer nicely!!!! Party on Dudes!!!...so cup holder on a 1st Gen is accomplished...at least for now. I did have to use a piano hinge to attach the top since my plastic hinge crapped out...I also attached the factory retainers so it won't fall all the way back when you open it up and it worked pretty nicely.

Thanks...I really wanted to use black silicone to make it look better...I also thought about hot glueing it in...but I had a bunch of what they call "clear" silicone which to me this is not clear when it sets...but it's in there really solid!

I'll probably take the ash tray and lighter out of my dash and make something like this fit in it's place.

I appreciate posting the link. Been over on t4r.org the last few years and didn't realize this forum was here. Looks like I have been missing out. For folks looking for cup holders, we do have a variety of them for the 1st gen and most of the console options. The 1st gen was a beast with the 7 different console options offered over the 1st gen years. You had consoles with small, medium, and large front storage holes. Then there were tall consoles with 2 storage compartments while others were short with only one storage compartment. Then some got padded leather armrest tops while others didn't. Then there were consoles with almost no storage due to a heater being underneath. WTF TOYOTA!!!! I almost gave up on the 1st gen product line because of the insane amount of options in the console department. In the end we were able to come up with at least one cup holder to work on every option and some of the console options out there can accept up to 4 of our cup holders all at once. We have ones that mount inside the storage compartment, in the front small rectangular hole on the storage compartment, on the passenger shifter bezel, and the driver side shifter bezel. We did our best to make sure we at least have something for everyone. Here are some pics of the different options. If you have any questions feel free to ask away.

Apparently folks didn't read my earlier post about a Black Friday promo. I had 100s of email this morning when I got into the shop asking about any promos today. The only promo we are running right now is 15% off the entire order plus free shipping. Use coupon code "TEQ15" during checkout. We are not running the 15% off promo on etsy or ebay because of all their seller fees. This promo is only available on our website. www.bh3dprinting.com

I use Bhicks cup holder every day in my 88. Its worth every penny even though it doesn’t take lots of pennies to get one.

    I have this style.

Welcome to the one and only drink solution you'll ever need for you Toyota Truck/4Runner, the Caribou Double Cupholder.
This double cupholder unit is designed for 1984-1988 Toyota Trucks, and 1984-1989 Toyota 4Runners, it fits modification free. No holes, adhesive, or hard to find shifter bezel.
Mod free, the way it should be.
This unit fits and looks great in any build type. Daily or weekend warrior, you'll find it as the most handy purchase you've made for your truck.

The Caribou Double Cupholder mounts over your radio bezel while being secured to a plate included for your ashtray location. The ashtray is not retained, except for the two side screws provided from Toyota - These are the only screw locations for the entire unit. The plate included reinforces the dash making this an incredibly strong unit that will last forever and look good doing so. Radio viewing angles and switch access is great, the cigarette lighter is still fully functional and usable.

This Cupholder works with all transmission models, clearance is ample in all gears and there is no contact. Worn shifter bushings could present an issue, check out Marlin's great replacement. Body-lifts or other non-factory equipment like engine swaps may change shifter location which may affect compatibility.

Both Cup-holder holes are 3.3'' in diameter – The center slot is sized perfect for cassette tapes or other similarly sized items, its dimensions are roughly 3.3" x 3/4". I don't recommend the slot for phones, the powder-coated metal edge could scratch a glass screen on a bumpy road. Use at your own caution if you use it for this.
The bottom cup-stop is adjustable in height, this helps you fit it to your drink type. The cup-stop holes are sized for the bottom of soda or similarly sized cans.

The unit itself is constructed entirely of 16-gauge cold-rolled steel**, laser cut and press-brake bent to perfection. No CNC here, an operator with decades of experience oversees each part construction after laser work. The final parts are welded, finished, and powder-coated in texture black. The surface is tough, and durable.
