That is not an easy question to answer.
I have a lot of experience with plastidip.
If you plan on any contact (tall grasses or corn etc) it will scratch or tear.
I cannot remember who, someone here used a rattle can bed liner & had great results.
It is a permanent solution but will last longer & be more durable.
Had we not xpel wrapped ours; I would bed line both front & rear valances. I like the gray/silver (done with all black vehicles); so I would find a gray bed liner. Just me...
If you have any plastidip questions; please ask.
It is not my profession, however a friend & I invested in the professional system & have many hour behind it.
    Best of luck.

I have questions that may or may not help the OP as well...I was thinking of coloring the "SR5" lettering on the side of my 4R just for giggles. can you brush plasti dip on to small lettering like that? will it level out and be smooth? and....if I decide to remove, will it mess up the silver finish on the letters?

It is not a product to be brushed on.
It comes in multiple colors in rattle can form.
Yes, it self levels. 6-10 coats will get every angle & enough product to maintain & not peal.
    Prep first...
Then you just tape off an area slightly smaller than the logo you want to dip.
    Spray & wait to dry.
Take off tape & peal. The logo will cut the paint & leave the letters.
Here is a video that is much more thorough.
Also, I buy all products from www.dipyourcar.com
Buy the pre dip & the dip coat if you want it to have the "wet" look.
I hope I helped. Watch his videos. He does some amazing things!

If you mess up or want another color. Just peal the emblem and reapply.
It is very forgiving & easy to use. It doesn't damage the paint or emblem.

I say go for the plasti dip. It is easy and if you screw up it is not permanent. Here is a photo of my work, this is 4 layers of black, the more layers the better of look and peeling off. I have since dipped my Toyota logo with gunmetal gray. Youtube plasti dip and just do it.

I also plasti dipped the letters on my wife's Crosstrek.

Having used the plastidip gunmetal gray I bet that compliments your vehicle color awesome! I bet it is very close to factory looking.
    Plastidip is awesome!
Everyone should buy some & experiment (even on some random metal, go buy a logo from any parts store & practice.) It is fun!
Hell, you can get it at Lowes if needed.
I will look through my pics later & show pics of some of the stuff we have done.
    Again, looks awesome!

Get a red scotch brite pad and a bucket of water with a couple drops of dish washing detergent. Scuff up the part wet. Then dry and wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol diluted 50/50. Then do a few coats of SEM trimblack ultra. Paint shop quality and the perfect "sheen" imo.

Here is one of the end caps of the roof rack that I did. Super simple process.

Any plans to do the front to match? We wrapped ours in PPF before I could do anything. Very curious, I love plastidip!
    Thanks,

No, just taped around them as well as I could. Scuffed the plastic, cleaned with acetone and then started spraying. It’s held up pretty well. Hit a deer a few month back and ended up with deer fur stuck in the front. Got the front replaced with a factory black valance, same cost or cheaper than the silver. Back is still in pretty good shape

    done some stuff to it
I did plastidip on the SR5 emblems on sides and the 4Runner on back.
Just wiped them clean with rubbing alcohol. Twisted paper towels to clean in the little corners. Taped some plastic to protect from overspray leaving a few inches clear around emblems. The leaves something to grab when peeling/trimmed in the end. Sprayed them with a few coats dip plus couple clear coats. Peeled the excess as soon as dry. Poke a toothpick in the skinny gaps and twist to wrap up and pull out from between letters.
