    Calm down, no problem.
I stopped at the dealer today and showed him the part you told me not to worry about. The mounting plates have a rubber coating on them that are more than 50% worn away. They help seal the water should it get in. Cant use silicone as it's acidic. It short the cost is through the roof so I'll take your 89 bucks and put it towards another rack.
If you have a conscious, send the rest the money, if not, hope you sleep well.

I can assure you, any used rack that was purchased would have the sealant peeled off. I don't know where you are going with this, you believe I peeled it off for some reason? What do you think I have against you that would make me want to intentionally damage an item I am selling?
I've mentioned this before in this thread, but I can reiterate:
    - This was not sold as a new rack.
    - I never gave any indication that it was in perfect condition.

You do not get to dictate whether or not I have a conscience. I will not refund you anything more. You are putting a lot of time and effort into trying to "win" this. What I wouldn't give to have the time I am wasting in this argument with you.
Honestly, I don't care what you do with the money I refunded you. I wish you the best of luck in finding something that meets your exceptionally high standards.

Again, From Dave (and deleted from this thread) for transparency’s sake:
    11:25am- “Lol, standup guy”
    11:26am- “Dictate? Lol”

@ForRun- Yes, I do consider myself a “stand up guy”. Please stop harassing me. This is getting really old. I hope PayPal can complete their investigation soon.
Anyone reading this thread- please beware of selling used parts to this member. In my case, the outcome is not worth the trouble this has caused.

This guy is nuts. Id you wanted NEW, you should have bought NEW File a claim with UPS, they broke the cross bar mount. You expected the seals to be NEW on a USED rack? Seriously delusional! Use thread sealer on the bolt threads, use a little gasket maker, the flat rubber stuff not RTV and make a few gaskets.

My bad. I will accept full responsibility for buying garbage. I've bought and sold stuff for years on multiple vehicles and every single time not an issue. Seller should have disclosed the conditions and this thread would have been non existent

Thanks for the support, man. I’m glad I’m not the only one here thinking this. I’m not here to scam anyone or sell garbage, just trying to get rid of spare parts I don’t have a need for.

For the deal you got- I’d quit typing, put that rack on my truck and go drive the hell out of it knowing it’s going to accumulate more scratches. Most members here would do the same thing.
Best of luck in your search my dude, you’ll need it.

I feel like if I was buying something that I knew wasn't sold as "brand new" or "like new condition" I would be asking for pics of everything before I bought it if I was that concerned about it. The way I look at it, the buyer is always responsible for making sure the product they are buying is what they think it is. I've gotten burned a couple times buying things off line but never blamed the seller. I take it as my fault for not asking for more pics or not realizing a deal is to good to be true. If the rack was broken during shipping I would definitely be taking it up with UPS not the seller. It's not his fault. I feel the scratches are to be assumed with something that isn't brand new.

I'd be upset with the broken tab, no doubt about that. Positive is you should be able to file a claim with UPS and you should be able to get that plastic cross bar end brand new from Toyota or maybe even ebay or Amazon. As far as the gasket seal goes, would you reuse any other gasket on anything in life? Valve covers, oil pan, thermostat, right down to the damn oil pan drain plug? No, you wouldn't, or at least sure as hell shouldn't. Those little gaskets can easily be made and of course cost a fortune from the dealer, because, well, stealerships rip people off. Make up some gaskets and use liquid thread sealer on the bolts, problem solved. As far as the little scuffs on the plastic covers, yeah that's a little annoying but hit them with some plastic treatment / protectant. You should be doing that anyway to avoid sun damage. Good idea to treat them with every wash your 4R. Plastic treatment will take the majority of that out and if anyone looks at them up on the roof that closely and has something to say, bitch slap them because they deserve it.

Just to add to this, I refunded him the money to buy 2 new crossbars to replace the one that broke in shipping
