I have a 2020 off-road with the stock 17 inch 7 spoke wheels. I am upgrading to the trd pro wheels. I have been told by a dealer that the instructions say i may need new tpms sensors if the angle is different (20 or 40 degree). I am trying to confirm this or not by specifically asking if anyone has converted a 2020 off-road with the same part number tpms I have and used them with the trd pro wheels?

More background info... Another toyota parts person was very helpful and looked up my vin and said i have part 4260748010. He thinks for the early 2020s ( and previous years as well) all used part number 4260735040. He had the 4260735040 in stock, and he ordered the 4260748010 that morning and got it in by noon; he compared the two tpms sensors and said they look the same and have the same angle. he pretty much guaranteed they would not need new sensors.

Does anyone actually have tpms 4260748010 part on the trd pro 17 inch wheels?

Even more background info... the dealer originally asked for $73 per sensor for parts plus $140 per sensor labor to program. they later said the programming was only $115 labor to program all 4, but that is still a big difference in cost if i don't need them. I really want to know going in for certain if new ones are needed or not.

I did post some related questions on some other threads here, but wanted to start a new one specific for this. Thanks in advance for any help! Either way i will post my findings here.

I think there was some problem with the dealers not having the updated tool to get new TPMS to work with the 2020.

Not sure if it was ever resolved.

There are some good posts on that out here, but that seems to be related to tire shops and even some dealers not having the updated software to do the tpms pairing on the 2020s (i assume that is for the newer part number i list above). This info they found in some install instructions said it was an issue with the angle of the sensor, but was generic.

I have a 2020 ORP and bought the PRO wheels online without TPMS sensors. I purchased the sensors (42607-48010) from a Toyota dealer online ($60.95 each) and had them installed at a local tire shop. There was no programming involved other than telling the truck that there was a new set of wheels which is done by going through the menu on your dash. EDIT: You will have to drive for about 10-30 minutes above 25 mph with as few turns and stops as possible before the truck finds the new sensors. It took about 5 mins before it recognized the new sensors and gave me pressure readings on the dash.

Why did you buy new sensors? Could you not use the ones on the original wheels? Did you have the same part number sensors on originally or did you have the 42607-35040?

But, either way your point is you do have the 42607-48010 installed on the pro wheels; so that is real good to know.

    1. Bought new sensors because the guys at the tire shop tried to remove them from the stock wheels and "broke one". Not knowing any better I ordered the wrong sensors for the 2019 (2020 parts weren't listed yet) and they did not work as they are a different sensor. Did some google searching and discovered 42607-48010 was the correct part. Apparently they're the same sensors for the Land Cruiser and I think the Lexus GX.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. It seems much more likely that the sensor part number be tied to the vehicle vs. the wheel. when you ordered the wrong part was it the 42607-35040, that did not work?

On a separate note, seems like the tire shop would not make you pay for a new one if they broke it. One toyota dealer said if they broke one they don't make you pay for it.

Yes it was 42607-35040 that did not work.

Not being savvy to TPMS sensors in the moment (previous vehicles I've owned did not have them) I did not understand how they were attached etc. In retrospect, it seems, at least in my opinion, the tire guys didn't want to break down my rims and tires to remove the original TPMS sensors so they "broke" one trying to remove it. Since I was not transferring the original tires to the new TRD Pro wheels, it was extra work for them. Mind you, this is all in theory, but they were able to quickly put on the new sensors... Lesson learned I guess!

Well.... I i got my new trd pro wheels put on today. The service techs/managers were still not in agreement what would work or not. I was convinced at this point going in my existing sensors 42607-48010 would work AND THEY DID (I knew they would sync to the the car obviously, but just not sure about physical fit). I don't know if the other sensors they thought would work, would or would not sync to the car but at least i did not have to find that out; i am guessing they would not have worked as per celaw309 above states.

Thanks for your comments on this. Hope this may help some others some day.

Glad it all worked out and you didn't have to find out the hard way like I did!

does anyone know the process of the programming via the menu? I see TPWS then when you click on that it gives you two options, the first is for pressure and second to change the wheelset. I purchased new wheels and tires and they came with sensors that were programmed with the new frequency (shop had to download their programmer) but, still not showing up. Not sure if there's some step i'm missing.

Do the Pro wheels give a wider stance than the OR wheels? I read that they’re different spacing, plus the pros are a narrower wheel. How does this translate as far as distance between the outter side of the wheels on each side?

Not much. If you are looking for something real noticeable looks else where.

Manufacturers gotta make the wheels stay inside the wheel well.

When my tire place switched over the sensors from my Pro wheels to my SCS wheels there were no issues. All I did was reset the TPMS and drove for a little till it showed the lbs in each tire.
