I just got the remote start from accessorides (G key w/ smart phone app).
Im a little aggravated because it turns out that its not quite so plug and play as advertised. The car does not have OEM open hood detection (hood pin)... does anyones 4runner have OEM hood pin?
I understand the purpose is so the car cannot start if the hoods open and someones working on it.

Will the remote start work without installing the hood pin? There is no place for it and I dont have time now to design and fabricate brackets for the switch. As well as I dont want to be drilling holes or fishing wires thru the firewall in her new car.

Does the hood pin close, or ground out, when the hood is open or closed? If its open when the hood is closed then no problem. I will clip the wire as if it had an OEM hood pin.

If it does indeed need the pin I will have to tape it down and just keep it under the dash.

Advice please! Personally I wouldnt be installing this system but she insists on having remote start.

Same here. OP just make sure you put the warning decal under the hood on radiator shroud. It’s a fair warning for anyone working there in the future.

Got it. I took my time but its now installed without the hood pin and works ok with the key fob. Here is the response I got from accessorides-

Hello. Most consumers skip the hood pin and just put the safety warning sticker under the hood. If you would like to install it, look at the area at the top of the drivers headlight. There is typically a rubber stopper where the hood makes contact with the metal radiator support beam. You would mount the hood pin in that support and use the rubber stopper as a guide for height adjustment. Hope that makes sense let us know if you have any other questions, Thanks!

My wife is trying to get the phone app to work but so far its not working.

Another weird thing that concerns me is the doors unlock while the engine cranks, then they relock. I'm not sure if theres some problem or if its just how it is. Does anyone elses do this?

Didn’t go for the phone app but I just tried with my fob and the doors do unlock briefly so that’s normal I guess.

Thats weird. I don't like it. What about safety and security? Slim chance of anything happening but certainly possible.

Generally I only use it at home or work. Both places are safe in my case.

I emailed them about it. The doors unlock in order to disarm the factory alarm while the engine starts. Then they relock.

Another weird thing- the mobile phone app didnt work. Again after emailing them, they suggested to check that the plug for the app/cellular antenna (its another little black box) was plugged into the proper port on the main module. It wasnt. It also wasnt easy to access it enough to pull the plug and put it in its proper port.
However, the app now works on her phone and she is happy.
