I had emailed Toyota and they emailed me back to give them a call with a case number. So I finally spoke to Toyota today about this situation and got nothing really. They said the new phone iphone was not even out yet when they completed their testing of the new head unit so new they had no way to test on the 2020's and they and Apple are both aware of the problem, but since they are not in the business of phones and software, they tend to lag the phone companies on updates. So it sounds like this rests on Apple to get a fix here soon. So nothing to really do but wait and just use Bluetooth for the time being, which sucks. Maybe contact Apple next.

I just picked up a SR5P this weekend. Experiencing the same issues with phone plugged into carplay. Audio cutting in and out basically unuseable. Bluetooth works fine though which is a separate issue i had with the tacoma before i traded it in. I have an iphone 11

I've sent apple two feedback reports on it. Toyota basically told me the same thing, its just weird, car play runs from the device itself so its odd to me that its having issues on only this radio. I would think if it was the device, it would happen on any vehicle using carplay but it only happens on my 4Runner.

I think once more and more people start having this issue, it will force either apple or toyota to fix it. I've tried alerting as many people as possible.

Ha, not an android fan but I have heard there are no issues with Android Auto so thats a good thing!

Ok, Apple just dropped 13.2. I immediately test with my iPhone 11 Pro Max. And... The same results. The audio is still choppy on both sides of the call.

I showed it to the shop manager and the experience manager at Toyota. They are going to look into what the problem is. He tried to blame on apple, but I mentioned that my phone works fine in my friend’s Volvo xc40 in CarPlay while making a call. So it could be apple, but I think more likely its a combination of apple and Toyota. Yay Fun.

Make sure you are using an original Apple USB cable, or an Anker cable from Amazon. I know it sounds like a sales pitch, but I had this problem before and using a high quality cable solved it. Don't ask me why but the cheaper iphone cable didn't work but when I switched to an original iphone cable it worked. I then found the Anker ones from Amazon work too.

I actually use Anker ones at work so I tested that out too. Nothing fixes it unfortunately. I also find that my iphone gets incredibly hot and doesn't seem to charge when connected to the 4Runner using carplay. Something isn't right, I just dont know if its Toyota or Apple at fault.

Same issue here. We have a 2020 Offroad Premium. Everything is all good with car play until you make or receive a call then it freaks out and freezes up. The call gets all choppy before the freeze. I have a 11 Pro on 13.2. The Bluetooth does work for calls but I have to unplug from the USB. My work phone and wifes phones are both X on 13.2 and work perfectly in the 4runner with car play. All three phones work in our other two cars. I put in a claim with Toyota and finally got a call back. They said they are working on it and that was all I got. They will not even notify when a fix is available even with me filing a claim.

Yup, when I called Toyota with this they didn't seem to care much but told me that because its a 2020 they were still working things out. Not sure what that means. It seems to only affect the newer phones so far which is so weird. I reported it to Apple twice as well but have not heard back.

13.3 is in beta now so I'm hoping there is some fix in that one but I'm not holding my breath. I think this is going to be a pretty big issue.

I wrote to Apple, actually Tim Cook specifically about this issue. I received a call back from his office today, unfortunately I was unable to take the call but they will call me back tomorrow. Hopefully this is at least a step in the right direction of getting this fixed...maybe?

Just a little update on this issue. I spoke with the dealer last week and he just thought it would require an update from Apple to fix. So he was doing nothing. So easy to blame the other guy.

But I tested my phone in a Volvo XC40 and a Ford Escape with CapPlay. Both worked fine with making phone calls. Sounded and worked great.

This is my point. So far everyone keeps blaming Apple. Which may turn out to be true, but why does it work fine in other manufacturers cars? It feels to me like Toyota and Apple had a hand in this.

Just fix it. I’m tired of my new 4Runner not making phone calls correctly.

Agreed here. I don’t care who’s fault it is, I just want it fixed

Its odd that it works on every other vehicle, which is why I would say Apple needs to update it but then when you try any other phone, it works fine on the 4Runner So maybe entune needs an update to work with the iPhone 11/pro.

Either way, it’s insanely frustrating. I’ll update everyone after my call with Apple today.

So I spoke with Apple today. They are fully aware of this issue and are working on it. They are hoping to have an update this week on it. Fingers Crossed!!

I too have this issue in 2020 TRDP.

    Interesting find -

I connected to my AirPods, plugged in iPhone 11 Pro Max, made a call while connected to AirPods, and it was perfect. No lag, nothing froze up on the CarPlay screen. Then while on the call switched the audio to CarPlay and immediately experienced the input lag, choppy audio, and eventually getting the freeze. This makes me think it might be an issue with Apple and Toyota. Hopefully someone drops an update for this soon. Seems to only effect iPhone X's and later.

if you have having iPhone Carplay issues, just sell your 4runner wait for the Apple iCar.....I do use an Apple airbook and desk top,
but avoid all other Apple products as I don't want to assimilated and climb into that box.....very few I know have ever escaped

I have 1 2019 ORP and a Iphone Xs Max 13.2.2. This past weekend my radio started rebooting every minute or so. I turn Bluetooth off and the problem goes away. Running Etunes Version 1.28.804.24

Not sure what changed it's been working good for three months.

Anyone got the email address for Toyota

Just picked up brand new 4Runner. Having same issue. I have 11pro max. It was working fine on my Jeep’s CarPlay. It’s gotta be a Toyota issue. I literally was on the phone in Jeep, hung up, bought 4Runner and it didn’t work. What #should I call at Toyota to report. Thanks

Apple emailed me on Friday to let me know this issue is taking longer than expected but they hope to have a solution soon. I really hope we hear something this week!

You can use this one! 800-331-4331, voice your concern. The more people that complain the better, even if Apple is already working on it.

Nothing yet. Apple advises me they should have a fix by the new year so it’s a waiting game now.

Registered just to say that I too have a 2020 SR5 Premium and an iPhone 11 pro max and have the same issues. It's a severe delay that seems to be causing the issue with voice calls. The call timer on the display doesn't seem to work until you try and hang up then it advances quickly. FYI Panasonic makes the head unit and software for the 2020 Entune 3.0 radios. I doubt Toyota has much interaction with them other than to negotiate a price for product and delivery. Unfortunately we are all going to be at the mercy of Apple/Toyota/Panasonic to get this cleared up. Hopefully it will be soon. Huge disappointment for me thus far. (bought on 22 November).

I just hope it gets fixed soon. Apple advised me it was being looked at and should be corrected by Jan of 2020 but heres to hoping!

Here are the links to report this to Apple and Toyota, I think the more that people do it, the better chance we have of it getting fixed quicker.

    Apple - https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
