What ditch lights should I go with?

These things are unbelievably bright and focused for the price. I have a set of yellow driving in the factory fog light location and the white spots on the ditch brackets. This setup is 10x times brighter than the factory headlights and provides such a large area of light. In addition Rago is awesome and I think they have one of the best ditch brackets on the market. And their customer service is great! They answered all my questions and walked me through the entire installation.

A few other brands sat way too close to the hood for me to be comfortable.

Rigid Industries make good lights as well. I have used them on ATVs and my Tacoma. But ultimately I feel the Baja Designs provide a sharper focus at that price point (200 bucks ish).

How big of a pain is wiring?

 

It’s not terrible...but I bought the relay harness (relay included unlike the one Baja provides) that Rago sells and their switch that fits into the factory slots. There is a small hole half way up the firewall that has a rubber grommet. I slit a hole in that and ran the wire through. The most time was spent routing the wiring in the engine compartment. And one of the best features on the Rago brackets is that they have slots to zip tie the wiring to...

You have a chose of the low profile bracket or standard.

 

Here are some photos...and FYI these are their standard height not the low profile. IMHO I am glad I didn’t go with the low profile like I originally wanted. Because of the potential for a lot more good glare.

 

Don’t love the button their wiring harness comes with. How did you mount that? Or did you cut it and use a factory button?

 

It was just a red light toggle type switch. High quality but it requires a hole in the dash or in the blank switch plate. But with the blank switch plate, there really was no good way to cut it.

I used Rago’s custom switch that pops in after popping out the blank plate. It was simple to wire with quick connects. The only thing that I was nervous about was tapping into Toyota’s factory harness to have the button light up when the headlights are on so I skipped that part. But Rago said its safe and very common .

 

So Cali raised has a lot for like $150 that includes everything. Not one to cheap out on stuff, but curious

 

Don’t have have any experience with them. I have seen friends and family use cheaper options (not Cali Raised) and yes they are bright but Baja Designs and Rigid Industries are on another level as far as build quality and usable light.

 

99% I’ll go with the Baja designs with your lil review

I've been eyeing these up. I was thinking of putting them on cali-raised brackets and using cali-raised wiring harness.

Expensive, but insanely bright!

Did you get the low profile brackets? I like the look of them.

Also, are you doing the OEM style push button dash switch?

 

Yup low profile with OEM style switch. About 290 total

 

ive got cali raised on mine, and i like the lights and the way they mount as well.

 

Pics of the low profile vs the standard would be great if someone has that.

 

Soo, I got the Rigid D-SS ditch lights and the Caliraised brackets are arriving today.

Does anyone have any good pictures of the install? Or, link to a write up?

I'm fairly handy, and I have a few friends who are car enthusiasts/hobbyists as well, so we can surely figure it out. But, it's always nice to see what others have done to get some ideas.

I hooked up one of the lights to a battery in my buddy's garage last night, just for shits and giggles. These things are BRIGHT!

 

I was checking those Rigid D-SS before I bought my Baja Designs. My Bajas in my factory fogs have been so good that I decided to go with Bajas again. I regret this a little and not because of the performance but because of the outer coating. It’s not holding up as well as I hoped in the sun and elements. The Rigids I have had in the past on my Tacoma and ATV have held up great. Install is super easy especially if your handy.

 

Baja designs seem to be Rigid's biggest competition. I was looking at them as well.

I was able to get a very good price on the Rigids, which helped me with the decision. They really charge a premium for these things.

But, if they live up to the reputation, then I'll be very happy with my decision.

 

Agreed they are pricey...my ATV D Series have taken a lot of hits by branches and such. They been covered in mud and water and just keep on going. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either...

 

I know this is not about ditch lights but looking at possibly doing the same down the road. I’m going first with bajadesigns LP4’ behind the grill first on my 2020 Pro. Ordered my bracket from NFab still need to remove front bumper. I will wait to see how bright before I add ditch lights.

 

Like yourself, the performance of my amber Baja Designs fog lights also led me in the decision to adding other Baja lighting. In the rain, I've never had a light perform so well. I've also found it comforting knowing that the lenses and bezels of the lights can be changed. In addition, except for possibly the light bars greater than 10", there are rock guards that can purchased. These not only protect, but can alter the functionality of the light, ie. an amber cover on a clear light making it multi-purpose.
